The Battle of South Baton Rouge is tonight on the turf at Parkview Baptist. These two rival schools stand just 5 miles apart. It seems every year this game is circled on peoples calendar of must watch soccer in the area. Each team is very familiar with the other. They have numerous girls playing on the same club team, lots of friends off the soccer field, and two coaches who also coach in the same Baton Rouge Club. Tonight, none of that matters!! For those that have seen this game in person, its a fight......and it doesn't stop until the final whistle. District implications and power points are on the line. I'm sure these two would like to see each other in Hammond the next time they play, not a semifinal game.
Last year St Michaels would get the 3-2 win. A year before they would play to a draw and PBS would get the W back in 2021 by a score of 3-2. Each a highly competitive match.
This year should be no different. Both teams have studs all over the field. We have previewed Parkview a few times on here. Ella Kate Johnston and Karis Phillippe are the goal scorers up top for the Eagles while the field general, Sarah Ortleib, plays with such poise and purpose. Nothing seems to affect her on the pitch.....and beware of her leg, she will strike when she needs to.
Not to be out classed, St Michaels is loaded........and healthy!! This has been the crutch all year for the warriors as they never have been able to put the full squad on the field. They are 99% there. The Deangelo twins (Holmes signee's) are back together and wrecking havoc on the field. Kamryn Watson (UTSA signee)and Grace Dennison (McNeese Signee) have the ball skills to create and a cannon of a leg. Look for them to make noise tonight. Morgan Walsh, who looks like a track star running on the wing should keep the Eagles outside backers on their toes. Lastly, Kendall Edwards controls the back line and Kristen Rudge is the senior keeper with the golden hands.
Buckle up, take a seat , and get your popcorn ready. Its going down at 5pm tonight!!
