As the regular season winds down, the playoffs ramp up. Here is the last edition of the top 10 for the 2023/24 season.
1)SJA (20-0-2) - The highly anticipated matchup last night between SJA and STM didn't disappoint. SJA takes the 1-0 victory snapping the Cougar winning streak. RedStickers end their regular season with three straight shutouts.
2)STM (24-1-1) - The Cougars are human......partially. The Machine would would find its first rust spot since 1/21/22. I think one would be rude not to look at what STM has accomplished these past years and give them a standing ovation. I don't think it’s dead either.......The idea of STM playing with the streak in the rearview mirror is scary. Don't get in the way.
3)PBS (22-0-1) - The Eagles would claim the district title ,solo, for the first time since 2002. They stamped their way to the district crown beating St Michaels 2-1 and U High 4-0.
4)SSA (16-2-5) - a tie with Mandeville and three straight shutouts since Jan 22. The Doves have the Dove faithful believing. If there is one potential upcoming match to circle, its SSA vs SJA. That should be electric if both get there. Mandeville will have something to say about that.
5)Mandeville (21-5-5) The Jan 3rd lost to SJA kicked the Skippers into gear. Not seeing a loss in their last 11 matches including a draw with SSA and a 1-0 victory over Newman to end the season.
6)Episcopal (18-0-1) - 1-0 Win vs Hannan last week was impressive. It's still a three horse race in Div 4
7)Capt Shreve (20-3-0) The match many people brought up to me last week was the Loyola / Shreve game. What would Capt would do against rival Loyola? A 2-0 victory followed shortly after with a 3-0 victory against Lakeshore has them ready for a playoff push.
8)St Michaels (11-5-3) The warriors would end their season on a high note beating a scary Hannan team 4-3. They would also give Parkview one of its most competitive matches of the year falling 2-1. One can't look that far ahead in the playoffs, but a jump up to #3 eliminates a PBS/St Mikes rematch unless its in the final.
9)Southside (19-2-5) They just wont go away! Shutouts in their last five games , the Sharks lock up the 6 seed heading into the playoffs. Well done.
10)Hannan (10-7-5) They would play the Episcopal game after postponing it, falling to the Knights 1-0. They then get beat in the last minute to St Michaels by a score of 4-3. An up and down season for them , I still think this is one of the more scary teams to face in Div III. They gained the experience last year on their way to Hammond, and are ready to claw their way back
Its playoff time, popcorn ready and ready to watch!

What is the ODDS, of all 3 of these teams scheduling each other next year? 1 and 2 will play each other for sure! Will the High School Girls soccer gods answer our PRAYERS??

Prolly not, Parkwho schedule was full this past year on our open dates with matchups vs Destrehan, Thibodaux, & Hahnville. Fortunately for us SJA & St. Mikes said they’d make room to play us 😜

Mikes said they’d make room to play us 😜 Parkview coach has always scheduled strategically based on his program's capabilities. Parkview isn't as established as STM nor do they have a bajiliion girls to choose from like SJA. Parkview is a small school on the cusp of being in D4 enrollment wise. Or at least they were the last few years. Baton Rouge is competitive for girls soccer players. Getting girls to choose between private schools like SJA, Episcopal, St Michael, UHigh and Parkview isn't easy. All schools have good qualities and all have good soccer programs. Last year, because of his team's make-up, Parkview went out and scheduled every good team they could. Added the Lakeshore Tournament and asked to play STM and SSA. Lost 2-0 and 3-2 but competed well. Scheduled SJA, lost 4-0, but were 0-0 at half. Depth was an issue there. Ran out of gas that day. Parkview had to replace three starters on the back line, one CB started for five years, and also had to replace the state offensive MVP who scored 54 goals. When Parkview lost their best returning player over the summer, I think the coach wasn't sure how competitive Parkview would be in 2023-24 against the likes of an STM or an SJA. He scheduled some tough teams, MCA, Mandeville, Sacred Heart, Dutchtown and Newman and also has those district clashes with UHigh and St Mike's. My opinion only, but I think Parkview's team has developed more quickly than their coach anticipated and had he known pre-season, maybe he would have found a way to schedule STM and SJA. He always schedules to get better, but you have to be realistic sometimes. I'm hoping Parkview can continue to grow their program so they can compete every year, regardless, against the war horses of LA girls soccer. if healthy, Parkview will be able to compete with any team in 2024-25.

For those who aren’t aware, Coach Raphie and I are friends. He and I actually did attempt to schedule a game this year but unfortunately just couldn’t find a date that worked.
Coach Raphie has done an outstanding job at Parkview and both him and his team are extremely talented and deserving of everything they’ve accomplished thus far.
I also petitioned the catholic schools competition committee to inquire if they could simply swap SSA and STM for the 2024 playoffs since they desire to drop down and we want another shot to play SJA…sadly I was informed there is no such thing as a catholic schools competition committee but if dovesdad were able to pay a substantial copyright fee we could loan SSA the Cougar moniker for a day if they advance to semis since it’s way more intimidating than a dove.

I know you two are friends. Both excellent coaches. And have two excellent programs. STM been doing it longer and is the program a lot of coaches strive to mimic as far as success goes. Feel the same way about Coach Carmouche at SJA. Good coach. Good program. Good dude. He's raised that program just like Raphie has raised PBS. My daughter graduated last year, I just like promoting high school girls soccer. Good luck to all three of you in the playoffs. Changing gears.....can a program like STM choose to play up in D1? By itself without any other sports having to change.

Yes, I believe it can...
My question has always been what does it benefit our school, program, team, and players to play up.
Outside of 5 games in February and about 3-4 district games we already choose to play up in competition.

I also petitioned the catholic schools competition committee to inquire if they could simply swap SSA and STM for the 2024 playoffs since they desire to drop down There was definitely no desire to drop down. The school messed up and didn’t request to keep their Div I status by the deadline. They are a Div II school and play in Div II in every other sport, but have always requested to play soccer at the Div I level. The school claims there is nothing else they can do to get back to Div I until the request comes back around in 2 years.

proudpapa it’s was a joke 🤦♂️
And we all know it was the catholic competition committee that put y’all in DII in an attempt to prevent public schools from making the finals in any division.

I know you were joking. I was explaining how it happened for anyone that might not know.
I honestly think SSA had a better chance at a state championship had they stayed in D1. They have lost to STM the last two years in a row while beating St. Joe’s once and tying them once in the same timeframe.
