What are your thoughts in ranking LOUISIANA high school soccer among the other 50 states. What would you rank them 1-50 and who would you say be best and worst among the nation. Thought this would be in interesting topic since we had a few teams ranked in the nation for the winter polls.

Overall, I think Texas, California and, North Carolina have three of the top programs. I think areas like Pennsylvania and Indiana are well up there as well. If I had to rank LA overall amongst the 50 states, I think we would rank about 25th

How much do you know about each state to make that list?

Couple of things to consider--California has 2 state associations Cal North and Cal South, and Cal North is way stronger--#1 or 2. Cal South would probably be down around 9 or 10.
Texas is seperated into 2 Organizations: North Texas, and South Texas. North Texas is the bomb--probably #1 or 2, with South Texas coming in around 12-15.
I would rate New York, Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania in that order ahead of North Carolina, and I would rate Maryland, Georgia and South Carolina higher. Ohio and Indiana arent that strong.

What is it that makes some of these other states able to field such good soccer programs? Are they coming from states with bigger populations? states with better economies? states with more prosperous families better able to afford spending money promoting and playing premiere soccer? Is it that these states have universities and colleges that field quality soccer teams?
Some of the problems in the bottom states on the list can be related to geography. When we considered a transfer to Wyoming several years ago, I looked into their soccer programs. They are very proud of their soccer programs and are doing all that they can to promote them, but obviously weather and geography are a factor. They have several indoor fields that are used during the winter weather months. but you have a long drive to get there because of roads and sparse population.
I have lived in Texas which is far superiour to Louisiana in having quality soccer offered for your children...and I have lived in Arkansas which is far inferior to Louisiana in having quality soccer available.
I think it is good that we are addressing this question of where Louisiana ranks nationally. We need to see realistically where we are, where we were and where we need to go. The question should then be , how do we improve our state's potential to field great soccer teams.
I don't mean this to sound like a sermon or anything...just think it is good to be aware of where we rank in the big picture when it comes to soccer.

I think you underestimated Missouri, one of the few states where soccer was big before it was big nationally. St Louis U. has 7 NCAA championships.

I believe we're ranking high school soccer, not college.

Most of the top players from states where soccer is big don't play high school soccer so it would not be a true ranking considering the difference between high school and club soccer.

Considering that St. Louis Catholic was ranked #1 in the nation and Lafayette was ranked 6th or 7th in the nation i think that Louisiana soccer is probably in the top 10.

Considering that St. Louis Catholic was ranked #1 in the nation and Lafayette was ranked 6th or 7th in the nation i think that Louisiana soccer is probably in the top 10. yes, but not all teams play soccer at the same time as we do. If i am not mistaken, it ranks the teams playing at that current time.

While louisiana high school soccer is good, I'd say 15-25 depending on the year, the top 5 states are so much better it isn't even a comparison. And ranking LA highschool soccer isn't a ranking of LA soccer in general. Club soccer plays a huge part in other states while...oh that horse has been beaten too much.
