I assume Jesuit beat Newman (confirmation?). If so, it looks like because of bad weather forecast for tomorrow, the final of the St Paul's Christmas Invitational will be held tonight.
My prediction is 4-0 Jesuit.

Hope you are wrong, but this will be a very tough test for Magnet. They aren't nearly as deep as Jesuit (who is), and will be worn out from their 2 earlier matches. They would have a better shot if the match were played tomorrow. Best of luck to Magnet.

I say 3-1 Jesuit. I hope Magnet wins though.

I'll chime in....JESUIT IS GOOD! This year we've played Jesuit, Lafayette, Teurlings Catholic, Carencro, Capt. Shreve, St. Pauls...just to name those that have been considered TOP TEN by most at some point. I've also personally watched at least a few minutes of Caddo Magnet, Vandy, Catholic BR, a little of Fontainebleau and Brother Martin, and St. Thomas More...that's almost everyone that most would consider in the TOP TEN of a combined ranking. There's no question "to me" that Jesuit is the best team right now. Lafayette showed well against us, but as their results have shown they are a little up and down...at least by their standards.
As a coach, having said that...it doesn't mean that Jesuit can't be beaten...the playoffs are about matchups....a coach has to study his strengths and the strengths of the other team and come up with a way to help his chances....I think there are probably 7-8 teams "capable" of upsetting Jesuit, IF THEY played their best WHEN it was needed...big IF right?
What has amazed me about Jesuit in past years and this year is their fitness level. I don't know if they do something different than the rest of us in training or if its just a matter of them all being upperclassmen and the difference is just simply having 11 physically MORE MATURE players...perhaps someone close to them could shed some light on how many Seniors, etc they start...just out of curiosity. That makes a difference when you're trying to compete. Their kids are so strong at getting up and down the field at speed, constantly and that can begin to wear on us "normal" teams...haha...those of us that have to rely on talented freshmen and sophomores to round out our starting lineup. These kids work hard, but there's not much substitute for the strength and stamina of that extra 2 years of physical maturity. I'll make another statement about Jesuit...at least in the games I've seen them play..they have presented themselves with class. That's not to say there's no whining, etc., but overall they were a pretty classy team.
Just my humble observations and thoughts...

They usually start about 7 seniors.

Jesuits's strength is their depth. When a player goes out for the 8th grade team, he is one of at least 50 players trying out for 25 spots and typically at least 15 to 20 of those trying out have played at the Premier or Select level. If you factor this across the 4 years of high school, the Jesuit coach choses a varsity team of 25 players from about 200 good soccer players with half of these having played Club soccer at the Premier level. What this means is that is extremely rare for even a Sophomore to make the Varsity team. I have never heard of a Freshman making the Varsity. Typically only about 2 freshman play up with the JV and only about the same number of sophomores play up with the Varsity. In essence, their Varsity team is almost exclusively comprised of Juniors and Seniors. And the reason they go two teams deep is that essentially all of these players come from the Premier/Select programs in New Orleans. Their soccer team is analagous to their Swim Team. The top athletes in these two sports primarily go to Jesuit. With such great talent, they are bound to be successful.

...I thought Jesuit had a freshman starting varsity at the tourney. A defender, I believe (not sure though). I heard this from a coach that claimed to know the player. Yes? No?

Magnet was worn out for the final and Jesuit's size, speed, and depth was too much. Magnet played all their subs after Jesuit went up early by two being the starters had nothing left in the tank. It would have been a better game if it had been played tomorrow but Jesuit would be difficult to beat without some breaks and luck on any day. Magnet starts two seniors and that will not work against a team like Jesuit. They are good and I enjoyed seeing them play, congratulations to Jesuit on their tournament win! They seem to be in a class by themselves.
Congratulations to the Magnet players and coach Radi for getting to the finals! You proved you can play and win against some of the best teams in the state...

I dont think another day would have made too much of a difference, Jesuit hit the post at least 5 times so the game could have been far worse.
