St Amant 2 BRHS 1 (OT)
Excellent game played very well by both teams. Huge playoff implications for both teams ans both teams played at playoff level intensity. Very clean game with maybe 6 fouls called all night. Exciting and back and forth. Both teams came out fast, and momentum seemed to teeter-totter back and forth. BRHS scored midway through the first half when they made a quick transition and caught the St Amant midfield pushed up. Baker for BRHS hit a nice shot that got deflected and went in for 1-0. Throughout the first half I thought BRHS had more possession, but St Amant had the better opportunities to score. First half ended 1-0. Second half had the Gators starting really fast and it paid off when Jake Aucoin threaded a nice pass to Sebastian Torrado and C-bass nailed it from 22 into the side netting for a 1-1 tie. After that it was all defense and goalkeeping, with the Adam Ellis for BRHS coming up big on Torrado twice, and Brice Noel making an awesome save to his right for the Gators. Thought both keepers played extremely well throughout the game. Game ended at 1-1 and headed for OT. Gators agains started fast and used the long ball to get in behind the BRHS defense. It worked for St Amant and they won an early corner. First corner was headed out by BRHS, but second corner was hit by Torrado with a heavy inward curl and found the far inside of the net for a 2-1 St Amant lead with 6 minutes left in OT--really nice shot. Gators then dropped everyone back except for 1 player to chase and packed it in. BRHS tried hard to generate a scoring opportunity, but couldnt get one and the final whistle sounded to end the match. Kudos to both teams for an excellent effort. Really exciting match to watch. Gators played really well tonight, and the Seniors on the field had a lot to do with it--Cody Wilson, Jake Aucoin, and Sebastian Torrado all worked their tails off to help get the win. Rest of St Amant team played just as hard, and defense was solid throughout--really excellent considering the Gators started 3 sophomores in the back 4. Noel had his best game of the year, and Torrado did what bigtime players do in big games--two excellent goals and a great effort all night. I was very proud of my team tonight.
