what would you guys do if you had a team that had 2 or 3 players that thought they were better then the team? that would dribble and lose the ball or would yell at other teammates for taking shots and not getting the ball. which is causing players on the team to quit....
just wondering....

If I were in this situation and had the depth, I would bench them until they proved they could make the players around them better. It certainly depends on the mentality, because sometimes you need someone that wants the ball THAT badly in order to put it in the net. It's certainly a dilemma, because a lot of times players superior to their teammates will get frustrated easily.. however, there are 11 players on the team for a reason.. I've seen a pretty bad team play twice, one without its star player (incredibly selfish yet talented), and one game with him. They played much better when he was on the bench. That's just an example, because I have played for many different teams with many different attitudes, and the teams with less talent and more team chemistry were almost always more successful. It takes some guts, but when players are quitting because a teammate is looking down on them, it's gotta be pretty bad. Bottom line: take the players aside privately and encourage them to display more positive attitudes. Coming down on them, albeit deserved, is hypocritical. If they respond well, then great. If they continue to drag the team down, then you should probably consider benching them to get the point across. Just spitballing

lol im not the coach im just a person watching. but these players arent superstars. they are some of the better players but they think they are gods gift to soccer. i wouldnt mind seeing them take on a team 2 v 11. that would be a interesting thing for them to see. there is no place for taking time out of your game to tell somebody else how bad they are doing. in that time you could look at where you have messed up and fixed something. nobody is perfect. they seem to not understand the fact that 2 players can carry a team but its alot easier to let the team carry itself. it doesnt help that the fan base cheers for them when they almost get in fights and hog the ball

i would say have a team meeting and put everything out on the floor giving each player a warning and goin over what is acceptable and not...if no1 speaks up or calls anyone out then they cant ever do it again or they will sit the bench until they learn that you are the coach and must listen to you inorder to play...just a thought.

they should at least be benched. That kind of selfish attitude ruins the game for the rest of the team. Maybe you lose a game because they are on the bench, so what? Maybe then the other players will enjoy themselves and have some fun, which is really the whole point.

Chillcrunk, Since i'm on the team your speaking of and you don't play on this team anymore, please stop starting threads on a high school soccer message board on topics that you know nothing about. I know your getting your facts from your little brother and if he told you that the reason why the two players quit is because 2 or 3 people on the team think that they are God, then he has no idea what he is talking about either. Nobody on our team thinks they are God...I can, however, remember a player from the past year that thought he made the team because he played soccer for team that won the state championship in MPSA...give the players that quit the respect they deserve and don't start threads on this site about our team...after all, you graduated last year. Thank you.

hi im aj dawson. (getting that out in the open). your talking about me. you can ask anybody i played against. anybody on here. i never said i was amazing. of course when you play you have to be confident and if your not you wont beat people and you wont be able to do whatever you can do. i never said i was the best player on the team. i said lucas was.
i heard from other people about people qutting. i am friends with other people in the world and i didnt see my brother last night. and alot of the stuff i post on here is from my observations. its not hard to see a player take stuff out on other players. 1 of the players quit because of the people. the other i never talked to so i wont say. another player earlier quit because of the people.
and you said stop posting on a high school message board since im not in high school... a good bit of the people that post on this site are coachs or family members of players just discussing soccer. i never mentioned nevilles name. at all.
ive now released my name. ive told my story. i didnt call out a school i made a hypothetical question. you brought up your school. im sure there are more then 1 school in louisiana that have players like i mentioned. sorry if i hurt your feelings. anything else i need to do....

No one on our team would claim that they are the best on the team. No two or three players think they are God. No player is the Go - To - Guy that has to get the ball to score. Anyone on our team is capable of scoring. No one on our team yells at others for shooting unless they are dumb shots. Yes we do yell at others for not getting the ball, but thats soccer at the high school varsity level you should be able to. I know People mess up every now and then which is ok, but it should not be a constant mess up thing. Kicking people off the team would help none at all after having two quit yesterday.

Here's a random question.....have you ever heard the saying that one bad apple spoils the bunch?....this sounds like the case....I coach girls and they don't sound like you guys bantering back and forth.....anyway, if you have a legitimate question about coaching then understand that discipline, routine, structure and consistency will usually take care of things like this, however if they don't then you need to think about what your philosophy is, winning at any cost or creating a positive environment where your players (all skill levels) can thrive, learn, compete and enjoy their experience. And if the behavior doesn't change then tsumi is right, you have to consider whether you want a bad apple on your team. Just my two cents, since every coach has probably experienced this.
PS I would pm Coachray, he is a wise one, and his advice is usually dead on.
