Yes its, true. I've heard it from a very reliable source that STM has an inelligible player.

It is true...Once again, kids have to suffer. 2 teams from Lafayette in 2 years.

Grades are self-reported by each school. A kid can look at his/her report card and see if he/she made a 1.5 (that's all the LHSAA requires, each parish may require higher). These kids know what they have to make as do the coaches and administrators. This is not like a loophole in the rules, this is one of those clear rules. You make above a 1.5 you can play, you make below a 1.5 then you sit. I am not so sure that there can be confusion here. It is an unfortunate situation for those students who did make their grades but some rules do make sense.

Yes it is official. I just spoke with STM's athletic director and the kid was ruled ineligible by LHSSA. He doctored the report car that he turned into the coach to show that he had made the sufficient grades. STM later caught it and reported it to LHSSA. Because the kid played in the last game and he was ineligible, STM is now out. If they had caught it before that game it would have only affected the outcome of their district. STM would still be second and in the playoffs. LHSSA marches on. The Gestapo is real.

I don't think this is a LHSAA procedure problem, I think this is a problem with STM policies (they seem so illogical and well it just seems so blatantly obvious how this could have been avoided----Greek Tragedy)
My question is ....
Why are students turning in report cards when the coaches and administrators have access to their official records at the school? That is just asking a kid to cheat......and that is just plain stupid.
As a coach or AD, to avoid these situations, you got to get yourself into the guidance office and find out the grades for yourself. This situation could have been avoided if the students had NOTHING to do with the process of checking grades!!

Unlike the Lafayette boys last year who had a coach who was inelligible...here is a boy who LIED about his grades and doctored the report car he turned into his coach. This kid, by not taking his highest obligation (school) seriously has ruined a great chance for a life experience for his teammates. Wow...what a harsh lesson. So sad!

LHSSA marches on. The Gestapo is real. I think you might should reconsider where the blame lies in this situation.....the LHSAA just followed well established rules....your teammate did not..... I think the blame may lie somewhere other then with the LHSAA.

I simply dont take the word of my players on their grades. I go to the guidance office and check them directly. Thats the only way to know for sure. Yes it takes time, but its a whole lot better than whats happening now. Most young people are willing to take the risk, dont know the ramifications of thier actions, and arent willing to take responsibility in the aftermath. This situation sucks big time for STM, but as rocksccerstar has said, it could have been avoided by just a little bit more time being taken to check things out.

IF the player doctored a document given to his coaches, STM, being a private school, may have an honor code by which the administrators can deal with the player. If you don't think kids doctor report cards, go to Kinkos the day report cards come out. With the technology out there, this does happen. Seen it. This should of been caught sooner by STM. Five games, so about 2.5 to 3 weeks later?
This is not like the kid who lies about where they live, in those cases SOMEONE else always knows where the player lives, and the team suffers rightfully so.
The important thing is for the players to move on and use this as a life lesson for when they become parents and leaders in youth sports, nobody likes seeing children suffer the consequences of others wrongdoing.

the seniors lost their chance, juniors possibly lost there college career and a team lost a great chance for a state championship

i wouldnt say juniors lost there college career, college careers come from premier (state, regionals, nationals, odp) not from high school soccer, high school has so little to do with collegiate soccer process its not even funny

its a shame someone could be that selfish as to forge a report card just to be able to dress out with the team. unfortunatly the rules are there for a reason. i do however respect the decision of the AD at stm for reporting the infraction even though knowing the penalties that are involved with it. ive known him for many years and have always respected them for that reason. to all the other guys on the team that worked there butt off during the year, and made the grades, my heart goes out to them, its hard to lose, but its even harder to lose like this. hopefully in the future the time will be put in to assure that this situation does not happen like this again
