Menard 2- NCS 1.
very exciting game.
NCS coach was wonderful to watch - he was like a caged lion on the sideline.

Someone had warned us about a small field, didn't come close to expectations. The field was VERY small, Menard kept quite a bit of possession but was unable to get many shots off as Northlake got almost everyone back and clogged up the box.
Northlake came out fired up and scored in the fourth minute. Menard scored before half in the 39th minute to tie the game.
Second half possesion was 90% Menard, halfway thru second half, Casey Juneau put a goal in.
With the small field, Menard was unable to get much of a passing game going, they were used to playing wider fields. It seemed every time the played the ball wide it was out of bounds.
Hats off to Northlake for the game they brought, Menard was fortunate to come out on top. Northlake looked fairly young, look for them in next couple of years. Northlake Christian was a great host.

both teams came out ready to play but menard had no momentum in the first half (several missed and ugly kicks, trouble staying on feet, etc) and ncs took advantage right away. it was hard for menard to score because ncs packed the box with 8 or 9 players everytime. menard got one in just b4 the half and during the second half they got the momentum back and the ball was on ncs's side 80% of the time.
the field was very small which yielded menard to how they usually play but they eventually got used to it. the officials def could of been better. the center had no control over the game and several bad calls were made on both sides. the stands were extremely close (closer than any rec fields) and the fans were loud. the worst part was that the baseball team was practicing their throwing in the beginning of the game and during the entire game the softball team was practicing their hitting (we played on the baseball and softball field; the fences were pulled up!!) a lot of distractions and not a very good atmosphere.
ncs played very physical but were ready for this game probably because of everyone saying they were gonna lose. congrats to them for giving menard a hard earned game.

I warned everyone of the field size. It takes a very good possession team a good 20 or 30 minutes to get used to having 22 people on a postage stamp. Too many throw-ins and goal kicks for my liking. The better team got the "W" here and that is fortunate. I have seen Northlake play several times over the past few years and have never seen them pack the box with defenders. Good luck to Menard.

well whenever menard had the ball on their side, they had only one guy at the top of the circle with menards defense. everyone else was on defense, not necessarily in the box but around it
