With all this talk about cenla players improving I was thinking of the history of the current ASH players. Looking back to those that have trained under crossroads’ coaches I see a secret weapon that the current coach might not even be aware of and that is the power of twin’s anticipating and reading each other quicker and more reliable then any other players. There are many books written on twin studies. The current coach is a really good coach with both playing experience and coaching education but in the short time he has had the team we can’t expect him to have exhausted all possible ideas.
I know current thinking is that the twins can’t play behind each other these days, but IMHO that is shear nonsense. Following their career under the South African coach and the other fellow who took over after, we have seen a history of twin communication making a difference.
Under the Dutch system forwards side-by-side each responsible for his side of the field with one always staying high as a target so as to occupy two defenders and always ready for the counter attack; leaving the other to forge underneath to narrow opponent defending shape and serving as a wall for midfield play coming from behind they have created numerical advantage in the midfield in the past; but more then this staying 15 yards apart I’ve seen the twins stay central and concentrating the defenses’ central covering. Time and again they have pulled apart the central covering making room for central attacks from the midfield. And why does this work for the twins? Because like magic they utilize quick flicks and 1-2 movements and most of all exhibit a superb mutual understanding only twins know how to do.
Yes the current situation may need to be beaten out of them or perhaps some good counseling but in the end twins thinking alike and knowing what each other are going to do is like riding a bike: they never forget!
I know the current coach will at some point sense this so don’t be surprised if next year ASH gets in high gear. Twin power can’t make a bad team unbeatable but when you have a stable of many other good and great players a twin pair up front can be unstoppable!!
