Ok, what will it be this year? One year in the dense fog, the Jesuit goalie pulled the ball out of the goal.
Another year Lafayette scored on Todd's hand sweeping the ball into the net.
Then there was the famous slide tackle outside the box on Reese that led to a tie with just moments left. And a player who was a sub in the second half went on to win MVP.
Then last year, on the way to the final, a coach couldn't keep his composure, got kicked out of the playoff match, records check showed he wasn't certified. Thus FHS played a just beaten Jesuit team on prevailed to gain a berth.
What's gonna happen this year?

I did see that all the St Pauls players did not shave their heads. what's up with that, Mattie D? I had noticed that as well in the two playoff games I was able to attend...Whatever happened to the days when the entire team of SPS would keep their heads shaved throughout their playoff run until they lost? I always thought that was a great symbol of their solidarity. It kind of looks odd and loses its effectiveness when only some of the players do it and the others do not. Instead of making me think they are unified during the playoffs, it leads me to believe that they are not all in this together (whether or not it's true is not the point). Why even do it if all are not on board? I think some of these guys love their hair too much and/or are concerned about how they might look or be perceived (by others) with a shaved head... The bottom line is they have been playing well during the playoffs, and they better be on the same page with each other against JHS, communicate well, play with vision and "smart" physicality, possess well, stack up the back 2/3 of the field with defense, and take advantage of every little opportunity you might have against this powerhouse as if your life depended on it and this was the last game of the season (oh yea, it is)... As far as controversy is concerned, perhaps the predicted rain and/or the field surface will present some issues that sway the powers-that-be to look favorably upon SPS and give them the tools necessary to pull off this victory. I don't think the size of the field will hinder JHS, for if any of their players get exhausted, there is another whole team with talent eagerly waiting on the bench; SPS doesn't have that luxury... Lafayette won 1-0. Score right before halftime. Corner kick, scramble, score.

Nothing much to talk about this year?? What about 2 N.O. teams who had to play in Shreveport b/c of Katrina? Was the wind a factor? Reading Shrevedad's posts, sounds like many J fouls around the middle of the field in the first half.

Another year Lafayette scored on Todd's hand sweeping the ball into the net. i don't recall this It wasn't Todd.....it was Blake Hardy and it was claimed by the Jesuit defense that he hit the ball with his hand. It was a corner the looked like it hit his torso as he was rushing toward the goal. Refs didn't see it and Lafayette beat Jesuit 1-0 for first state title.

Jesuit has an impressive team. SPS was hoping that we would be overlooked. JHS is strong at every position and won each of its playoff games 2-0. SPS gave it their all and then some. Kudos to both coaching staffs...StPaul's for pulling together a true playoff powerhouse when it counted most, and JHS, for the perfect season. BOTTOM LINE: There was no controversy in Shreveport. Congrats Bluejays
