Any thoughts re. a coach requiring all players to buy and wear the same make and style of soccer boot. I compare it to requiring baseball players to have the same glove. Unity or what?

I agree with the coach asking the players to wear the same color boot, but requiring the same make and style maybe financially too much to ask.

This would only be acceptable if the coach received a nominal fee from the shoe manufacturer for requiring the team to wear a certain style and color of boot.

I would think it might be problematic for some players, not so much financially, but because of personal preference and comfort with shoes. I always liked Puma shoes, and more recently adidas because they were wider through the middle. I always had problems with Nike because I found them to be too narrow. As a coach, I leave shoe choice up to the player.

Personal preference seems to be logical for each player's boots esp. when dealing with players that have been around the game for a while.

In recent years the higher end shoes(Kangaroo skin) are made to where they form to the players foot. Brand type and style hasn't mattered as much. But I do think that it would look good if a team was dressed alike from jerseys to boots.

Perhaps the coach's wife should decide what brand, color, etc. their family should wear so they all match whenever they are in public.

i dont think that should be done, bc cleats make a big differece and everyones feet are different, so what works for one may not work for another...plus no one wants to wear a cheap ugly cleat bc everyone on the team had to have the same ones and they had to be cost efficient

it's gotten to the point where cleats are being designed to fit players style as well, not just their foot (not that that doesn't matter as well). some cleats such as vapors and and most pumas and diadoras are made for quicker, more attacking based players. some cleats such as f-50's or legends are designed for players that rely more on their touch or passing. there are many other cleats for many other styles as well. i play forward and i wear diadoras, if my coach tried to get me to wear f-50's i would sarcastically tell him that they don't carry my size. i can understand wanting your players t wear the same color but the same shoe, no way. i think the baseball glove analogy is right on. would you want your catcher, your first-baseman, and you shortstop to be wearing out fielding gloves? i didn't think so. I'm not surprised that mostly everyone agrees on this. any coach that would demand this of their players must not know anything about playing soccer.
