I have a quick question. St. Frederick, a perennial Top 10 team in DIII, is classified as DII (4A) this year. Their football classification is a 1A. Did they ask for re-classification in soccer only? If so, why? I guess the travel distance might have been an issue.

They were added to the new district in NE Louisiana with Neville, Wossman, West Ouachita, and Carroll. Carroll, West Ouachita, and Neville are 4A Wossman is 3A and St. Freds is 1A. Carroll and Neville were in a district with Parkway, Loyola, Haughton, Bossier, and Northwood. We had to travel to the Shrevport area 2 times and week just about and weren't getting home until about 1 those mornings. So they tried to make a more local district and just asked more schools to join it. Thanks for your clear explanation, neville4. It's interesting that the two schools moved up (presumably) without asking for the move themselves. If Wossman or St. Fred. go deep in the DII Playoffs, their move may become an issue in the future. Otherwise, I guess this move makes everyone involved happy.

Flat3, St Fred's has not advanced past the 2nd round of the DIII playoff that I am aware. Moving up to DII will give them a huge opportunity to at least win in the second round, that is unless they meet up with another DIII transplant.

I don't know about all of the other schools, but I do know it makes us happy. I'd be happy too -- you don't have to meet St. Louis in the playoffs!

The is the ole "if" argument. Well, St Louis sure does have St Fred's number, I agree. But last year St Fred's lost to University in the first round, in '03 lost to STA in the first round, and 1 of the 3 years ('05) St Fred's lost to St Louis, St Louis lost in the semi finals. So I guess "if" your argument is valid, St Fred's should have made it to the Semi's and beyond in '04 and '06, just drew a bad side of the bracket. Anyway, Good Luck in DII.

Actually, last year I'm pretty sure that St. Fred's won first round in the playoffs, but too an extremely easy Catholic Point Coupee and I think it was around 10-0 St. Fred's. And they lost 2-1 to U-High in OT. Sorry, just had to clear that up.
