I am not familiar with the word "pretigious". Did you mean prodigious or portentous?

I have my bet on Shreve. Magnet and Shreve are always a tight match. If Magnet can beat Byrd 3-0 then I think Shreve will do fairly well also.

Shreve needs to make some changes in the lineup or Byrd will give Shreve all they can handle.

Shreve will definetely win... Byrd is a good opponent, but Shreve is great.

Congratulations to Byrd on hanging tough and getting the win. I thought Shreve had a few more changes but they were never able to get off a good clean shot to challenge the goalie.
Daniel made a nice shot on one of the few chances Byrd had and that was the difference.
I hope both teams do well at the showcase tournament!

By the way, the final score was 1-0 Byrd. The goal was scored about midway into the first half.
This was the first time I have seen Byrd since the Magnet match and they have improved. The lineup is basically set, and the coach was not making mass substitutions or moving players around alot. There still was not build up on the attack consistently, although there were several nice flourishes. The goal was scored on a long ball into the box and Byrd's forward, Daniel Poole, made a nice touch and got the ball past the CS keeper, who was slightly off his line. Toward the end of the game, Byrd was getting tired and most of the action was in their half of the field. One thing they got down right: whenever Brennan touched the ball, there were 3 people immediately on him. In a 1-0 game, he is the most dangerous player in north Louisiana. He made several nice touch passes into space off the triple team, but none of his teammates anticipated this, so nothing was created. It was evident that Brennan was playing through a lot of pain to stay on the field
This was my first opportunity to watch Shreve this year. At this point my observation would have to be that it is not necessarily true that a group of very good players will always turn into a very good team on the field. There was some very good individual efforts on the field, but they still have not jelled as a team, particularly in the midfield position. Shreve's coach seems to still be looking for the best combinations as he was trying a lot of different players at different positions. Not to be unexpected with such a large amount of good underclassmen, this early in the season.
I am sure this result has to be discouraging for Shreve, but their coach has a long history of making good adjustments, and the talent is definitely there on their roster.

Has anyone heard from ShreveDad. Boys lose 1-0 to Byrd and the girls lose for the 2nd time to Byrd 4-0. keep him off the bridges. No suicide watch needed, but thanks for the concern sportfan. Girls got totally outplayed by Byrd. We took 2 shots on goal all night. (1 was a free kick). Hard to win matches when you get outshot 30-2. Girls roster isn't deep enough to survive injuries, especially against good teams. Stephanie Hall isn't near 100% and you could see how Byrd totally controlled the midfield last night. As far as the boys, it was a good match. Shreve had a few more chances than Byrd but couldn't finish. Poole had a great chance for Byrd and put in a nice shot. Shreve's best chance all night was when Paxton got the ball down deep and shot a little too soon. (in my opinion) When your sweeper gets your best chance of the night, it could be a long night. Shreve is so young this year. They are going to be a very good team in a couple of years and will improve quite a bit as this year goes on. Was talking with the dad of Justin Barnes (Byrd keeper from last year) about how nice it is to watch these matches without the stress of your kid playing in it. The heart rate stays the same the whole match and you can just enjoy the good soccer being played. Congrats to Byrd on a good win. Shreve now needs to step it up to have a shot against Magnet. Should be another good one Monday night. Win or lose, I'll go home, have a drink, and fall asleep on the couch around 10 o'clock.
