Ok, So I attended the St.amant/Baton Rouge High game tonight and students from St.amant were blowing an airhorn, being loud and so on. But my question is this, how can a ref tell the kids to stop blowing an airhorn or the coach will be kicked out? This seems kind of crazy to me. I can understand if they were yelling out uncalled things (which Im sure was happening) but for blowing an airhorn at a soccer game? It really gets under my skin that these kids are at the game to support their school and friends playing against the number one team in district and they can't even blow an artificial airhorn? The LEAST you could do is let them blow a darn airhorn! This isn't tennis or golf! I think the refs should maybe worry about the game more than the students blowing an airhorn. And no Im not a student at either school. Im not a student at all! This is just something that gets under my skin!
By the way, Congrats to St.Amant on the win!

The National Federation of High School Sports has a rule that was adopted 2 years ago that prohibits artificial noise makers. Refs interpretaion is correct. Didnt know that the coach would get run off, but it is a rule.
Great support tonight from the St Amant student body--you guys always come through for us.

I agree w/ soccerfan..... it IS rediculous..... and as a player, i could care less how much noise the other teams fans make..... sometimes it actually fules me more to do better..... i cant speak for everyone but the refs should worry more about the players and stop focusing on the fans unless there is really somethin wrong goin on in the stands....... we actually had an airhorn at our game tonight...... didnt bother either team and no refs complained.... thats how it should be....

St Pauls has a bell the students ring when they score. Can the coach be tossed because of this artificial noise maker? The rule says he must go, if Coachray is correct.

Does banging your head on the bleachers count as an "artificial noisemaker"?

Here is the classic story about this travesty of a rule:
In the fall of 2003 USC Levski was pounding the home team Memphis Futbol Club en route to a trip to the finals of the Superclubs Tournament. The Levski fans had their plastic clappers sizzling in support of the team when the MFC Coach called the ref over for a chat. After listening to him for a few minutes, he went over to Levski's Bulgarian coach, Radi Baltov, who began gesturing in the classic exasperated soccer coach pose. The ref then came over to the Levski fans and said "I cannot forbid you from using those clappers, but the other coach says his players cannot hear him because of them." There was a moment of indecision as the Levski supporters contemplated what they would do. Just then we hear Coach Radi protest from across the field:
"WHAT EEEEEZ THEEEESE, TEEEEEEENIS MATCH!!!!!
The clappers chimed back in and Levski waltzed into the finals.
After the game Coach Radi remarked: "Clappers not bother them. What really bother them is getting butts kicked by team from Shreveport."
How strictly do you enforce this rule? Don't high school bands and some pep squads have "artificial noisemakers"?

If noisemakers are gonna be a problem, then it will be a huge problem this Monday when Shreve plays Magnet, those games get crazy.Hopefully the ref will concentrate on the game and not worry that the fans are being true fans.

i am not sure if this pertains to the situation but here is a rule interpretation from the NFHS website.... SITUATION 10: Are sounding devices by spectators illegal? RULING: No, however, most state associations have regulations for tournament play that prohibit specific types of noise makers. COMMENT: If the sounding device is causing confusion on the field among officials or players, the official(s) has the authority to suspend play or terminate the game under 5-3-2g.

A coach is not responsible for the students of the school.

I've played against the worst high school fans from last year and this year, from d1d3 at least, last year (Comeaux), and this year(Acadiana). Both games they were yelling out obscenities at us, especially when we played at their house. I loved it, and the ref didn't acknowledge anything was happening. I felt that was best, I just wish Laffy fans would do the same. Maybe that will solve our so called intensity problem. I guess this rule was made up by the older generation when soccer wasn't as big. Or like someone mentioned before; they don't watch international soccer.

I do know that when our fans were rowdy, it did bring a huge intensity to the game. It was a lot more fun.

Fans are a big part of the game at The Pit, where the stands are right on top of the field. I dont mind them getting as rowdy as they want--I love it. As long as they arent obscene, or racially abusive, I hope they get as rowdy as they can. We have one ref who seems to object to them even being there, and constantly gets caught up in their antics, but most of the rest just ref and let the fans be fans.

you are right Coach Ray.. that one ref definately doesn't like us to do anything. He wouldn't even let us say numbers, even of the players on our team, so we had to start screaming out their names just to make him mad. I think he hates St. Amant, but oh well.

We had a topic posted earlier in the year about the St. Paul's vs. Fontainebleau game. The FHS fans got "out of hand" and according to the FHS coach, fueled St. Paul's to a huge win. I thought it was inspiring to play knowing that plenty of people were watching the game. The more noise the fans made the harder every pass, every tackle and every second of the game was. That was one of the most intense games I have ever been to and I thought that the noise from the fans added a LOT to the game.

hey big nasty i was at both games against acadiana and i didn't hear any obscenities from the acadiana fans. i did see one of the lafayette player flick them off but they were only yelling at the players. i know this because i was sitting next to them in both games and my son is one of if not the loudest one in that group. they do single out players and ride them pretty hard but not with obsenities.

its nice for fans to make some noise and get a little rowdy as long as you are winning... when you are losing it gets real annoying

The refs should be praying for more noise and rowdiness NOT less. At most games I've been to, the decibel level has been comparable to a PGA golf tournament and, because of that, it is a lot harder for the refs to ignore the boisterous fan who is pointedly complaining about their calls. It can get very personal when it is very quiet. We need more hooping and hollering.
