Romario de Souza Faria, who won the World Cup for Brazil in America in 1994, has now retired at the age of 38, just one month short of his 39th birthday.
His glittering career never failed to produce goals wherever he played. In his domestic league in Brazil, Flamengo, Vasco Da Gama and Fluminense witnessed this great star score goals for fun. In Europe, he helped PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona to major honors, in Holland and Spain respectively, as well as in Europe. When he featured for Brazil, he was expected to conjure something out of nothing, and he obliged by winning a World Cup for them, and deservedly becoming World Player of the Year in 1994.
Earlier this year, Romario declared himself 'the most important player in Brazil's history', which did not go down well with Pele or Ronaldo. He also claimed that Pele's goal count should be recounted, claiming that "goals scored in his local park" were added on to his total.
Even with all the controversy, the main attribute about this amazing player, was his ability to find the net AT ABSOLUTELY ANY TIME HE FELT LIKE IT. He will be missed.
My role model growing up has retired. Ronaldo steps in now. Kaka's being moulded too.

How about Marc Overmars from Holland? Good point about Overmars. Im sure Barca would have loved to have kept him for one more season. Overmars ended his career short due to injury, and Barca have loads of injuries in their squad this season too! Where are you from?

Cantona has to be the most missed by his teammates and the fans. He had fantastic skills and was a true leader on the pitch. The fans loved him for his grit and flare. So I'll sing it one last time........
Ew, Ah, Cantona, Say Ew Ah Cantona. Ew, Ah, Cantona, Say Ew Ah Cantona. Ew, Ah, Cantona, Say Ew Ah Cantona.
