i think thats great, they really deserve it. I think that most countries are really surprized, cause they aren't used to seeing the U. S. being ranked so high. And hopefully they well make it alot farther in the Word Cup tournament this year, so good luch guys.

Many people from countries behind the USA will claim that rankings do not matter.
To me they do, since the USA has always been ranked behind Mexico as it seems whomever ranks these teams seems to reside in Mexico City. Finally, the USA is ranked ahead of Mexico. Mexico should not even be ranked in the top 20, much less ahead of the USA. One win against the USA in over 7 years does not validate them being ranked in front of the USA. Finally, the rankers got off the hallucinogens and came back to reality and ranked the USA better than Mexico.

Finally, the rankers got off the hallucinogens and came back to reality and ranked the USA better than Mexico. They rank countries on how they have performed in a span of the past 8 years, which includes the past two world cups, as well as qualifying matches in between. In the previous two world cups, Mexico has advanced past the group stage both times, while the U.S. has advanced once and has come in dead last in the other. This is FIFA that is ranking them, so I think they know what they are doing. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't let just anyone decide who is ranked higher, especially someone from Mexico city. ;D ...anyway, I'm one of those people who say rankings don't really count, because the system they use is based on mostly past performance instead of mainly present performance. Good luck to U.S., as they face off against the world. (If you have any questions, check out www.fifa.com and go to ranking and statistics, then ranking procedure.)

Thanks, but I know how the rankings are done already. In the past 8 years, Mexico has beaten the USA once while they lost to them over 7 times.

Since England's B team beat Usa last summer, USA have only played 4 decent games out of about 20 games. They beat Poland, Japan, Norway and Mexico. Wow.

Thanks, but I know how the rankings are done already. In the past 8 years, Mexico has beaten the USA once while they lost to them over 7 times. That doesn't mean they should be ranked below the U.S., they rank them on how they play against other teams, not just each other. Thats what my point was all about. The U.S. may have had the advantage over Mexico, but how did they do against some of the stronger teams in the past eight years.

im happy that the usa are that high up but if the usa was in europe they defenetly wont be that high. they play teams like costa rica, trinidad and tobago thats why the usa have won so many. if they had to be playing games like england like argentina and germany for world cup qualifiers this number 5 in the world may be a bit different.

Oh sure, if the USA had to play in UEFA there is no way they could match up with Northern Ireland, Wales, Azerbajan, and Poland.
Give me a break. UEFA qualifying is nothing special.
You are lucky to get one decent team in your group.
OOh, Lichtenstein and Malta are so difficult.
Lets see, Azteca, only Brazil have won away there. Yea, that is a piece of cake place to play in.
Saprissa. Oh yea, another walk in the park.
LOL! The only people who claim CONCACAF qualifying is easy is those people who do not follow it.
Total ignorance at its finest.
I am sure England would love the rascist chants, the bags of urine, the batteries, and all of the other things hurled at the visiting teams.

oh, and by the way, the 2-1 loss to England, the USA did not play their entire starting lineup either. In fact, Clint Dempsey who scored for the USA was making one of his first starts too.
It was a friendly, nothing more. The USA played poorly in defense, but dominated possession. Whatever. The game didn't mean anything to either team.

you onestly think usa are better than england. thats like me saying the iraq team are better than brazil. funny stuff. i give you credit for being a great supporter for the usa national team but there nowhere as good as england. your guys dont compare to david beckham, michael owen, steven gerrard, john terry, shaun wright-phillips, wayne rooney. they only thing i can tell you is that your keepers better than paul robinson but not by much.

Once again, you guys made something up to make your argument.

i hate people on this board. usa is doing well ever since the last world cup so they moved up in the ranking quit being such a usa basher and quit kissing on englands a** beckham's play has gotten considerably worse. wright=philips and demarcus beasley are a lot alike as players claudio reyna landon donovan clint dempsey and demarcus beasley makes for a pretty impressive midfield to me

first of all you just don't put those two in a game together unless you are desperate for a goal. They are the exact same type of player. Next, who ever said Beasley wasn't class?
Besides that, the people on this board that you hate aren't kissing butt, we are giving England the respect they deserve. I'm crazy about the US MNT, especially since I am an American, and I'll root for the US over anyone. But I can still take off my blinders and see that the US isn't quite good enough to beat teams like England time and again. YET! I know they are getting better, just like everyone else, but we aren't there yet.
