Wow was I wrong--and very disappointed by the US's play today. Defensive back four were serious poo throughout the second half. Could Michael Ballack have had any more space in the center of the field? I have never been a Greg Berhalter fan, and I am even less of one now--he was awful, as was Conrad. I found Kasey Keller to be off today too. Germany is not a good team--they are very average, and the US second team couldnt even get on the field with them. Once again, the US found a way to lose on European soil. Look for the US to go 0-2-1 in Germany 2006 and come home-making the US performance in the last 3 World Cups a whopping 2-7-2. Tremendous........just like today.

well, i recorded the game. the first half the U.S. seemed pretty decent. 0-0. But when the second half started it was a different team. But we have to look at the bright side. Germany had there A team on the field since most of their players play in Germany. But the U.S. had their B team out there. Besides Kasey Keller, (who plays in germany) there were no european stars out there. I lood for the U.S. to get second in the group in the world cup. And then they would get Brazil in the next game. Bad draw.

I kind of expected this much, I said it was a makeshift US squad before the game, and the second half proved it. I'm glad the US got the wake up call in a friendly rather than in the first game against the Czechs. The score would have been even worse. I see the US winning 2 games in braquet for sure now. Italy and Czech will not expect a quality US team after that defeat. So the surprise element of last World Cup will be in effect again this World Cup. (This is my best case scenario, because I definitely don't want Coachray to be right about this.)

Well yea that's the way it looks. If you look at it from a neutral stand point Italy and Czechs look like a better team. But if you looked at it from a neutral stand point last WC you would have said Portugal are better than the US. But the US can score goals fast, and their defense is class when the right players are in there. (I'm talking about midfield and defense, because you can't expect a great defense to hold quality teams without a good midfield.) That was USA's problem this last game. There was no midfield except on the attack because of Convey. But he's on the wing.

i liked Convey i hope he plays a lot more. I think the Reading guys were let go because they're so safe at the top of the table right now. The US missed McBride dearly, and the speed of Beasly. Does anybody else think the turning point in the game was Kahn's incredible save off Johnson? Seemed to me that from there Germany never looked back. Game COULD have been a lot closer but we'll never know will we.

Convey is good going from the defensive third, through the middle third, to the attacking third, but once he gets into the attacking third, his play is limited. He can deliver good assists, but he cannot finish a goal. Convey, has great holding possession assets, but in terms of defending and heading, he has a lot of work to do.
The USA team in Germany was in shambles for 20 minutes. Occasionally, this happens to the USA where there are periods of chaos that kills them (i.e. Azteca, 2005 in their 2-1 loss to Mexico).
Oh, and don't call the USA goal a gift if you are not going to talk about Germany's first goal, which also was a gift.
The USA goal was made because balls to the wall Twellman made the attempt that caused Kahn to missplay it. It was diserved.
