boomboomgoal he can say bloody all the bloody day. He's from England and that's how they talk in England. That's exactly what American football players say about soccer. "This is America, we don't play soccer". Stop being an butt. Anyway, the US needed a wake up call, and this will help their chances in the World Cup now. Czech and especially Italy will not take the US as seriously. The US first team will be achin' to kick some calcio butt.

Thought first half was impressive for USA, especially without Beasley, not too sure Reina and Donavon are the missing savours. Very impressed with Bobby Convey, good solid stuff.
Agreed with above, likely a good wakeup call. I still think the USA will qualify out of their group, losing to Czechs, but winning against Italy.

It was the dumbest thing I've ever seen for Bruce Arena to not play a full strength squad. This would be a terrific chance for the team to gel and test themsellves against a powerhouse. If they lost, ok, they know they need to get better. Plus it would have been closer, and been a big confidence boost, so I got to say it was a missed oppurtunity. Not a bad result for the guys who were playing, but still not great.

I would say Arena didn't want to play his second team against Germany, but he had Pope on the bench too. I mean most of the European players were not allowed to leave their clubs since it wasn't an international break. Convey was allowed to go because Reading have basically already won the championship. The rest of the European players played in Germany. But you are right that it is a missed opportunity for the US to gel. Germany played well and it would have been a great test. Reyna and Donovan are key players in the team, but it's not just their absence that hurt the US this game. It was Onyewu's, Beasley's, McBride's, Hejduk's, Bocenegra's, and possibly Conor Casey's absence that hurt the US. (I say possibly for Casey because I haven't seen anything about him all year.)
