23 man squad lists are coming in every day now, and there are some surprise omissions.
Anybody have any opinions? Lets skip ovr USA and England as those two have been heavily debated here already.
I though Cassano of Real Madrid was a bit surprising.
Also, as a sidenote, looked over Italian squad and looks to be like there is not one player who plays outside of the Italian league. Please correct me if I am wrong, and if i am, it is just one or two players. Find this quite odd this day and age.
Do you think this hurts Italy???
Having to adjust to the style of a Euro powerhouse, a physically fit USA, and a curve ball African nation is quite daunting over a two week period.

I think it may hurt Italy but there many teams that are doing this, Spain have left out 4 good players and i think it may hurt them in the long run.

I think Marcello Lippi knows what he's doing. I cant think of any Italian players outside of Italy who are worth taking.
Cassano is unpredictable and has done well in former tournaments. Enzo Maresca of Sevilla is on the form of his life and might be a tad unlucky not to get a call up.
Apart from those two, no other names spring to mind.
What will hurt Italy more, is the Juve scandal, and Buffon maybe not being allowed to play......

It looks like Juve has a guilty conscience, cause lots of their high-up directors have resigned. Anyway to get to who got screwed.
As to Casano, not really a surprise, because Lippi pretty much hates him, and its been said he wouldnt go.
Some big surprises came out of Spain, with Morientes and Baraja being left out, and most of the team publicly spoke out about it. There were some other surprises, with Del Horno getting the nod over Pernia who is injured and two other backs, despite Del Horno's poor form.
For Argentina, very surprising that Zanetti was not selected. Also Demichelis was not picked, but I just really can't believe Zanetti wasn't picked. I wish Demichelis good luck because he was quoted as saying "I have lost the will to live". Wow.
Quaresma was left off for Portugal, pretty surprising but they do have a great corps of midfielders and someone had to be left out.
My biggest bone to pick is with Holland. Seedorf, Makkay, Huntleear all left off. Seedorf who is still playing well was left out for Hedwiges Maduro....what's up with that??!? Makkay and Huntleear left off for Ryan Babel, and Jan Venergoor of Hesselink: just plain dumb cause they are obviously better players and better finishers. Huntleear scored more goals for ajax than Babel and if im not mistaken led the dutch league in scoring. Makkay, what can you say, he deserves to be on it, he is a great striker even though he had a subpar season. Also George Boateng, who has been in good form was left off. I just dont understand it. You bring 6 forwards, and six mids. Thats dumb and i shouldnt have to explain why.
Same deal for France. I hear good things about Frank ribery, but he will not play, and doesnt deserve to be in the squad instead of Pires and especially Giuly. French manager Domenech is an idiot, and I smell a repeat of 2002 for this group under him. I mean they had to fight tooth and nail to qualify against Ireland and Isreal.
Those are just some, but im sure there are more. Again Im very surprised by Holland and France.

Very good points gents.
Again, going off subject, thought Nowotny's inclusion for the hosts was very telling. Chinks in the once-unpenetrable defense??

Hollands gaffer said he wants young players to play instead of some of the older ones. I think thats plain dumb because If it was me I would want experience, but holland will do good so im not bothered

True, but they could be better thats all im sayin. I think Seedorf is still in great form, and Im unconvinced that any other forward besides van nistellroy can make an impact. But I think it will be funny to watch France. Domenech has to be one of the worst managers. I mean he opts for Frank Ribery over Ludvico Giuly!

van persie who plays for arsenal is a really good player and maybe a good partnership. I like Holland.

Holland or France do not have enough strength in depth for me. Their respective first teams will be quality, but when they get tired, their replacements will ensure that they'll get beat.
This Italy saga goes on and on - especially with Lippi. Its great.

Yes, but they wont win it all. I actually think Italy might do well, they did beat germany 4-1, but I wouldn't count on it. They always find a way to screw it up.
