Suprised no one mentioned the magnificent Eusebio...I'll give my five a side team...Oleg Blokhin out left...Pace ...Eusebio up top...Stanley Matthews out right...from what I've read he was an incredible winger...Roy Keane in the Center...Lev Yashin as my goalkeeper...greatest goalkeeper EVER

I'll throw out "The Clown of Keepers" Renee Higuita of Columbia. How not to be a keeper, but always an awesome adventure.

Yashin (USSR), named as the goalkeeper of "the greatest team of all time" supposedly had over 150 saved penalties in his career... . Coach Ray does know his stuff!! He had the #1 and #2 GK's of all time. He is accompanied by: Attackers Pele (Brazil) Puskas (Hungary) Eusebio (Portugal) actually from Africa Midfielders Cruyff (Holland) Platini (France) Beckenbauer (West Germany) Maradona (Argentina) Defenders Maldini (Italy) Moore (England) Carlos Alberto (Brazil)

more specifically Eusebio was from Morrocco but allowed to play for Portugal because Morrocco was considered a Portugese colony

Actually, I've never met him, if you are referring to Belfour. He doesn't even know me. But why would you say that...just curious?

I would have to pick Freddy Adu. You may ask, "Why in the world would you pick a 15 year old?" Well the thread said that each of these pla yers are in their prime. I think Adu will be in his prime at about age 25 or 26 which gives him 10 amazing years to develop as a player. Adu only has 4 years left on his contract with MLS and you better believe that at age 19 old Freddy boy will be taking up a big time contract with a European team. He will be old enough for his visa and will have had 5 years total experience. Now most players at age 19 are usually in their own countries trying to make a name for themselves and then come into European football at about age 21 or older (unless they are truly exceptional players). If you keep up with MLS games and my favorite team D.C. United, then you will notice how far Adu has developed as a player in just the last year. Think how much he can and will learn over the next 10 years. Call me crazy, but I take Freddy Adu. In his prime of course.

you sure love your coach eh lhssoccerfan ? Never met him either, but I sure am looking forward to it, if I ever get the chance. I'll bet a dollar against a donut that his players lay it on the line for him every game. I would...

You have to love the comment made on the Adu URL by D.C. United Coach Ray Hudson...
"A blind man on a galloping horse can see his talent."
Having worked with a lot of foreigners who ridicule the disposition of US football, I can't wait until we win a World Cup...What a scandal that would be... ;D

I think that Cristiano Ronaldo, the 19 year old playing for Manchester United, has the ability to be truly " great ." This guy can change the outcome of a game almost single handidly.
As for goalkeepers, I try to emulate someone that is quick on his toes, someone that can win a game nearly single handedly, and someone who can earn the respect of his players. For me, that player is Recber Rustu. He had keep Turkey in the semi-final match against Brazil in 2002. Even though Turkey lost 1- 0, Rustu made many fine saves in the seemingly one-sided match. I just wish he would have stayed with a higher profile team than Fenerbahce.

Absolute rubbish. Rustu didnt even make the first team at Barcelona at all. In the end they decided to put young Victor Valdes in there, who has been superb. Barca have only lost 4 games in the 2004 calendar year.
No doubting Rustu's a great goalkeeper. If only he was a good goalkeeper for the full 90 minutes, and not 85 minutes.

On another topic, I really cant get my head around the amount of optimism in America about winning a World Cup. Yes, America is improving a lot in terms of world soccer, but if people think that America will get to the top of the pile within the next ten years, you've gotta be joking.
Brazil are unstoppable. Absolutely unbelievable. They're always thinking about soccer, from a very young age, so their brains are totally soccer orientated. Just look at all of the players coming through. Brazil, U-17 World Champions, their 'B' team won the Copa America against a pretty much 'A' team of all the rest of the nations.
You tell me which Brazilian player is aging, and wont be effective for the next world cup, and I'll give you about three other WORLD CLASS replacements, and they are PROVEN, unlike Freddy Ady at this moment in time.
OOOOOHHHHH!!! GOTTA GO!!!
LIVERPOOL v CHELSEA!!!!!

That's way off of the original subject Ronaldo. And look at the original post. It says the players in their primes. Have you seen Adu in his prime yet? I surely haven't.
