Frankly I am surprised to see so many folks picking us to beat an undefeated team. Can Shreve do it, yes they can, but it will take their best game of the year to defeat Jesuit. The Loyola coach had a good quote in the paper this morning. "When you are 80 minutes from the final, it comes down to heart and guts"
Last time we played Jesuit, I think we were a little awestruck. You look over and see 30 guys warming up. Heck, we only have 29 in our entire program at Shreve. We played tentative. They won most of the 50-50 balls. They pressured us the whole match. We put very little offensive pressure on them the whole match. We lost 3-0. All 3 goals very easily could not have materialized. The first one was a ball played by a midfielder right into an attacker who then got the good bounce and found himself in a 1v1 with Jeremy and he hit the good shot. That ball should have been allowed to go thru to Jeremy and it would have stayed 0-0. We knew going in that we had to make Jesuit work for everything and once we gave them the goal, a little wind went out of the sails. The second goal came early in the second half and according to every defensive player and our keeper was a missed call by the AR. The 3rd goal came in the last minute and it hit one of our players backs and instead of going to Jeremy it deflected to the other side of the goal and in. Good teams make things like that happen and this time we cannot allow them to pressure us for the whole match.
The kids are going down on Friday morning and hoping to get a practice in at Tad Gormley on Friday afternoon. I hear the field isn't in great shape, but it can't be much worse that the one we practice on every day. It will still come down to which team has the heart and guts to win those 50-50 balls. Shreve has the opportunity of a lifetime here. They really have nothing to lose. They get a shot at an undefeated, #1 ranked team on their home turf.
I just hope that at the end of the match every player on the Shreve team can look at himself and say he gave it everything he had every second he was on the field. My guess is they will and my pick is:
Shreve 2 Jesuit 1

Tad Gormley not in great shape? That's sad news if it's true. I've never seen it in bad shape. We could just move the finals to the superdome...
I think most people are picking Shreve to win because most people would rather see an upset.
Jesuit 2-0

1-0 captian shreve over jesuit. i mean come on. One goal agasint HLB. somethings fishy about this years jesuit team hey after seeing Jesuit play Acadiana.. I would NOT be saying that they would lose this next game..The score in the Jesuit v Acadiana game should have easily been 5-4 Jesuit.. dude from the angle I was in the stands, the shots like BARELY missed.. there may have been a total of 3 shanks.. I wouldnt go against Jesuit in this game...now the finals may be different. Shreve has been playing well but I just dont see it happening on the BlueJays home field.. I wish i could be there but I am going watch the Lafayette v Caddo game.. convincing win here for those Lions.. Good luck bluejays..I want to go to New Orleans for something.. 3-1 jesuit 4-0 lafayette

i definitely think the game will be completely different than when they played earlier this year. shreve is more confident in themselves now so they should be able to come out and play. earlier this year shreve seemed a little timid. i think some of the seniors who usually blow up when a call doesnt go their way have realized that if they lose their high school career is over so they have settled down and are focused on playing soccer and not arguing calls.

I think it is all in the mentality of the Shreve players. They will be going to the field that the finals are played on, they will probably have use of the locker room and the whole deal. It can be intimidating when you make it this far in the playoffs, especially if you are looking across the field at an undefeated team, who is used to this. Wimer has to be HUGE in goal for Shreve. Jesuit will shoot and miss, but the one's they don't miss have to be blocked. I don't think Shreve will have many opportunities to score, so when they do, they need to capitalize. Jesuit will bring high pressure for 80 minutes, however, their backline is probably the weakest part of their team, but no team has really been able to stop their offense to be able to test the backline. I say fight fire with fire. Jesuit brings high pressure, give it back to them. In the end, the better goalie that day will be moving on. Good luck Shreve, I hope it ends up like the finals of the Sulphur tournament, Lafayette vs. Shreve for the title.

if jesuit's back line is the weakest part then hopefully shreve wont need too many chances to score. i did watch these two teams play earlier this year and shreve did have some chances to score but they didnt. it seems they have been able to take advantage of more of those chances lately, they just need to take advantage of all of them this saturday. the three goals jesuit scored earlier could have all been stopped except for maybe one and thats the one where a call was supposedly missed. the first one was a terrible pass and the third a deflected shot.

Several posters have commented about the lack of post be Jesuit Fans, while we are very proud of our Team and School , and all of it's accomplishments, my attitude is it is best left to be settled on the field and speak when all is said and done. Win or lose. I do enjoy reading others sometime informed and often misinformed posts. Coach Collins generally discourages his players from becoming involved in the verbal jousting which often occurs on these type boards. I will not predict a score or winner. As I have said in a previous post that at this point in the season any team can win and while it may be an "upset" it would not be a shock. I will refute some of what has been said about the Jesuit team, as I believe some comments were made out of a lack of knowledge. Jesuit has allowed 14 point all season (30 games) , has recorded 18 shutouts, has only allowed more than 1 goal twice and has scored 2 or more goals in 24 of 30 matches. In addition Scott Rossman, the goalie who no one ever mentions has blocked 4 of 10 PKs ( 2 each against Brother Martin and Acadiana. So much for a weak back line. What does seperate the Jesuit back line from other teams is they will press and are a part of the offense. Defenders generally play on the offensive side of the field and are involved in the offense. It is a lot easier to be a great defense when the back line sits back and receives the offense into their side of the field thus seldom allowing an offensive player from an open 1 on 1 with the goalie.
In regards to Tad Gormely's field condition; this is the worst I have seen it in 5 years. There were a combination of factors from weather and use / over use involving college football games late in the season, which in my opinion caused this. At one point Jesuit had stopped playing their home games on this field. The wings are in decent shape but the center line area is a sand pit. Measures have been taken to improve but I am not certain it will recover in time.

That's sad to hear about the field. It's been great the past few years.

JHS got it right. I don't think many Jesuit fans or players post on here because they prove themselves on the field. I mean, you go undefeated for a whole year (not to mention the previous amazing years which produced a great program annually), you really don't need to defend yourself. Anway, I'm calling Jesuit, 2-0. BUT I'm hoping and wishing for the upset, Shreve, but if it happens, it's only by 1 goal (LATE in the game, if Shreve's defence can hold off Jesuit).

most coaches i know dont allow their teams to post anything on there. one time our coach told us that if he found out we were posting on this board he would kick us off the team

Just for fun tonight I will reply more than usual : To futbol16, please reread my post, nowhere does it say the fans play on the field.. What was said was we are proud of the Team and School and all it's accomplishments and it is best e left settled on the field. Comments like these are what are interseting to read, but prove how some individuals will conclude what they want or struggle with understanding communication and a simple inference (I.E. the soccer team plays the game and settles it on the field )
As far as any other good fields available; the Nokia Sugar Bowl underwrites this event and has contracted with Tad Gormley Management to host this event . Economics would prevent moving the game. It is also why the game is in New Orleans every year. Local community organizations arrange sponsorship and a location for these events, State Farm has sponsored the State Wrestling Tournament in Kenner ( suburb of New Orleans for those unfamiliar with the area) the basketball championship is in Lafayette ( has been for sometime at the Cajun Dome ) , Shreveport hosts the cross country championship, Nokia, Gatorade and the Superdome the the Football Champioships, Baseball for years was in Denham springs (recently at AAA Zephyr Field in the metro area ) etc.

my comment about the fans was directed at lasoccerplay12 I don't think many Jesuit fans or players post on here because they prove themselves on the field. and i wasnt asking about moving the championship game. i was talking about the game this saturday, the one this thread is about. moving this game would help keep the field in better shape for the championship game
