Too right....there are too many variables which could change the picture completely. A star striker may have the flu; a major defender might be injured; a controlling midfielder might have missed training all week and not be picked for selection.....

At WHS, the SHIP is leaky The Captain needs to get the Crew to plug the holes, and all to pull together. It's not too late, but for the rats who want to jump ship, the fans in the stands have a message for them "Please do it now so those that want to play can man the oars and row at the same time". Woodlawn may not be able to beat the big kids on the block but those around last year will remember a game against St Joe's that took a late goal to save the Red-stickers from having to go to penalty kicks against the Panthers. The captain and crew have a chance this weekend to get pointed in the right direction when they travel down to Ascension Parish to participate in the ST Amant Gators tournament. By then all the patches had better be in place since district play will begin.

I remember that game. Woodlawn's goalie Val had a magnificant game. It took a 30 yard free kick from Mallory Hitt to avoid going to OT. Coach Cathi Edward is getting Woodlawn headed in the right direction. She has a core group of youngsters from her BRSA team that have played together for a very long time. They will ripen, and will be very tough for years to come.

Here! Here! PumasFC hit that right on the head. There are soo many positives: WHS has a great coach, wonderful parents who are very supportive, and girls with talent. They just need to get into a groove and with the help of an awesome senior class filled with leaders I think they will "plug the leaks." Right now I see alot of great field work but the inability to finish and as PumasFC said that can be disappointing. WHS has had sooo many great runs and to come up with nothing is "disappointing." They will get it. I am just curious why people in NELA are so interested in the fate of the WHS's ship.

Sorry if my post came off as harsh in regards to the WHS players. I apologize if it seems I was blaming them for the "disappointing" tournament....that was not my intention...and for that I am truly sorry. I am finished commenting on this thread...back to splitting the atom on my desk.

12.05.06 -- St. Joseph's 2 U-High 1. SJA sluggish in 1st half after lengthy lay-off + fatigue from arriving @ 2:00 Monday morning after having attended women's Final Four in NC. UH scores in 36th min with a pretty floating free kick from the left side. 1-0 @ ht.
Megan Aultman scores equalizer and then winner in 43rd and 59th minutes with darting runs though UH defense.
UH goalie was outstanding -- very lean and athletic. SJA outshot UH probably 12-3. SJA goalie Gabe Chabert saved the match in 76th minute with an outstanding, lunging save of a free kick.
edited to add commentary on the center. I would grade him at a C-. He missed an obvious hand ball in the box in the 2nd half, which if he ruled inadvertent -- that's a stretch considering the ball traveled 10 yards before striking the UH player's arm. He also ruled a foul at the top of the box in the 1st half, when it seemed fairly obvious that the foul was in the box. Other than those two, I thought he called an okay game. He let them play with a lot of equal opportunity no-calls.

With District play slated to begin next week and looking at the standings to date one would assume by the won/loss record that Dutchtown would own Dist.4. Most of us would agree that that probably will not be the case but the question is..... Who is the favorite based on what we've seen to date and what we know of the teams. Having not seen all the teams play I really can not venture yet a clear cut favorite. St. Joes looked good. Having not seen ST. Amant or BRHS but knowing their players, I simply can't pick a favorite. Hopefully, there are others in Dist 4 with a better idea. Who is gonna wear the label FAVORITE going into district play or is there no clear cut favorite? What are the thoughts District 4 fans?

We'll know a lot by about noon on Sat., Dec. 16th -- 9 days from now -- St. Amant @ SJA & D'Town @ BRHS. SJA and St. Amant have taken some early lumps. D'Town seems to be coming along. BRHS has made a HUGE mistake by not playing early games while waiting on Henderson and Cancienne. It will take some time for them to gel. If SJA can consistently involve Megan Aultman in the offense, they will be tough.

BRHS has to be the favorite - too much talent overall. SJA seems to have played some tough games and done reasonably well, and Dutchtown also seems to have shown some spark as of late. Haven't seen St. Amant much, but this weekend's St. Amant tournament will provide some opportunities to see St. Amant, Dutchtown, and BRHS in action. DTHS also picked up a quality player from BRSC this week.
BRHS first - SJA and DTHS in a tossup, St. Amant fourth.

stuckonsideline, interesting prediction. Haven't seen D-Town play yet this year, but have heard (and read on here) some pretty interesting things, maybe they are finding a way. I do think BRHS is going to battle for another district title, but I don't think anything in this district will be a cake walk for whoever wins it. I look for even more competition this year in this district than last year, with the 4 teams you mentioned heavily in the battle. The next 2 weeks will only give us a peak, it will take the whole district schedule before we probably know how this one will settle out.

Alleyball is correct, nothing will be decided until late January. this should be the most parity in the district (among the top 4) in some time. Each team has their own strengths, and if one of them overlooks Woodlawn (and the players come together, even if only for one night), they could get an unexpected loss on there record that could be costly in the rankings.

It must be said that a bit of perspective is needed; probably more by my own self than others. Im use to making predictions about champions league and premiership, but when it comes down to high school, we're not dealing with professionals. Everyone's thinking, 'yeah obviously...we know that'! But im just saying that to reinforce my point of what it all boils down to is how much hard work and fun a group of friends want to have. At this level, I firmly believe that its mind over matter. So if PumasFC says that Woodlawn are a team to be reckoned with, then it may well be true. If BRHS have spent most of their preseason on teambuilding rather than playing games, then it may work well for them. Teamspirit is definitely the biggest factor for high school soccer. Having said that, should the players think like professionals, I would definitely hammer home the point of winning the home games, and making the home stadium a fortress! I hate losing games at a home stadium! ;D

Very Nice Summation Ronaldo11. I Totally agree on the TEAM Spirit Thing. But one thing to Add is........ One Has to Believe in Themselves and Their " TEAM " for the Spirit to Kick IN! ( Not to Mention the HEAD COACH has to as Well )
adding More Food for Thought!
