Game MVP is Dominican keeper Emily Cobena Perhaps the St. Louis keeper, Rennie Walker, should have been awarded the MVP last night...in another shutout game. Congratulations to the Dominican team and their wonderful ride through the playoffs. Shrevedad, can you endure another OT game?

Congrats to Dominican. This goes to show that while polls are helpful, they really don't mean a thing.

Cajunfire,
Dominican plays in Dist 8. Just a bit of trivia: A District 8 team has won the state championship five of the last seven years.
Congrats to Dominican on a fine run.

What a track record:
4 straight wins over:
Mt. Carmel Mandeville Dutchtown Lafayette
Plus allowed <1 goal per game in the playoffs!
Real deal, Domincan! What a way to cap a season! You did what "couldn't be done." To be the best, you beat the best--State Champions until someone takes it from you!
Congrats!
Congrats as well to Laffy for getting there again! The consistency of this program as one of the state's elite is a tribute to the players and coaches! A shining star in LAHS soccer!

Great game on both sides. Hard fought match all 110 mins of play. The field may have worn out their body's, but I know they all put their hearts in the game and left it all on the field. A shame things have to end this way, in a golden goal shootout.
In my opinion, LHS dominated this game. The players took advantage of the width of the field and made runs. The downfall to that is the field was TOO big for From watching that game, they were pretty inconsistant both ways giving no one an advantage (which was good in a way). Should have taken down those posts. Play was stopped for about a total if 10mins just to try to put it back up.

Congratulations to the Lady's from Domincan they are the new LA STATE CHAMPIONS! It was hard fought game. LHS had more shots 21 to 8 but if you don't score you don't win.
LHS has been to the finals for the last 3 years. (semi year before) lost two in shootouts and won 1 They have allowed only 5 goals in the three runs to the finals. They have put the best defense on the field for the past three years in any division. They have won the hard games on the road and at home, in OT and shootouts NOBODY can question that they have been a force in D-1 soccer. Congratulations to Lady LIONS for a great past 4 years
A few questions Was that the best set of Ref's that the state could find to do a State Final Game? It is time for the girls to get some respect. The center could not cover that large field. Is it true that the Dominican coach call the Acadiana High coach to ask how to beat LHS and the coach was more than happy to give advice? Is Dominican (a young team) the real deal? Only the next couple of years will tell. Make it to the finals three years in a row and earn some respect.

Agreed, LHS has been a major contender for the past 5 years. You don't earn the respect that they have overnight (one season). It takes REAL hard work and dedication.
Also about respect, could they have really hired anybody much worse than that crew last night. I would have been glad to BUY a new crew myself for that game. The girls out there deserve every little bit of it out there like the guys.
Mabey the Dom. coach was a little lazy. Why study the backround/playing styles/key players etc. about a team when you can just as easily ask their rivals coach about them?
As one who has suffered from the severe condition known as "laziness". I know that it kills me to even break a mental sweat, more or less a real one.

Make it to the finals three years in a row and earn some respect. ? I think they earned respect with the wins over Mt Carmel, Mandeville, and Lafayette. At least they have earned mine!!

It's kind of funny to see people ragging on Dominican for not earning their place in the tournament, and then there they are in the finals, with the expectation of losing, beating quality teams to get there. Then when they win, now to "earn respect" they have to make it there 3 years in a row? Probably still won't be enough.

You people are rediculous! Dom won they are the champs you are not. No one to blame you got beat deal with it and let Dom enjoy their time in the spotlight. They earned it by beating all the other teams. If you can't respect that you must not be able to respect Laf, mount carm or mand. because they ALL lost to Dom!

Congratulations Dominican! Everyone can second guess and speak their opinion but it all boils down to who took the trophey home. It's not who is the best overall via peoples opinion, it's who was the best Saturday night and that was you! Congratulations on a great season and a great play-off run. You have a great group of talented players and obviously a great coach too. Enjoy your success.
Congratulations to Lafayette on a impressive 3 year run. Not many can lay claim to what you have accomplished. You have a great program and a great coach to boot. I'm sure you'll be back as strong as ever.

It could just be me, but I would have thought that for the Division I state title game they could have provided a center official who was at least moderately in shape and able to keep up with the game. The guy they hired Saturday night is probably a really good rec ref...but really wasn't up to the caliber of this game. I don't know if a more fit ref would have made a big difference in the outcome or not....but I think a game this important deserves the very best in the state and if this guy was it, then perhaps we should look out of the state for next years official. Congratulations to Dominican. They did what they needed to do to win and in the end that is what matters.

couldjustbeme, I agree with you, the ref could not keep up with play. He stayed basically in the center circle most of the game. I was sitting with a couple men from Shreveport and his 1st words when he got to the game was, "I can't believe he is calling this game". I asked why would you say that and he and his high school son both said he can't keep up with play, he's not one of the best refs from Shreveport.
I will have to agree, he couldn't keep up with play. I believe when we implement instant replay in high school soccer then we can have refs, out of shape and up in age, calling championship games. When the Lafayette player Judice was taken down in the box, I thought , okay the ref doesn't want to decide the game, but he was not in position was the problem.
I have a question for those who were at the game. When the Dominican keeper (Emily) picked up the ball outside of the box, shouldn't that have been a red card? According to the ref I was sitting with in the stands, he said because the forward (Macy Andrus) was passed the last defender, when Emily picked up the ball she stopped a goal scoring opportunity which is an AUTOMATIC RED CARD. She could have kicked the ball but by picking it up it should have been a red card. If that call had been made what a difference that would have made. I know refs are part of the game, and they try not to be deciding factors, but if they would just call the game while in the correct position and by the book, people would not come down on them so hard.
I am a Lafayette fan and I don't believe a red card should have been issued, however it could have been issued. The Acadiana High goal keeper brought it to my attention at the game that she had been given a red card for the same thing earlier in the year and it was explained to her as she stopped a scoring opportunity it was the rule. That would have been a TOUGH learning experience for the young keeper to deal with. I know the lines on the field probably confused her it was confusing to us in the stands.
Congratulation Dominican and good job Emily

I think she picked up the ball because she thought she was in the box, not to avoid a goal scoring opportunity. I don't know if you noticed but the most visible lines on the field certainly were not the dull yellow soccer lines, but the bright white football lines. I think a red card would have been way off base. on another note, agreed not bashing officials but the state finals deserve the absolute best.

I don't think it's whether she "intended" to deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity, it's simply a matter of if she did it or didn't do it. I was at the game where the Acadiana keeper got the red card. In the process of sliding to the ball to kick it out it rolled up and hit her hand. She was barely out of the box. She got the red card. There was no intent to pick up the ball outside the box, it just rolled funny. I don't think it warranted a red card and I don't think Emily should have gotten a red card in the state game. Consistency would be nice though. When I am constantly seeing keepers taken down when they have clear possession and there is no call, much less a card issued, it is grossly unfair that they get ejected from a game for losing track of their box by six inches, especially when it's faded and hard to discern. Seriously....having to stand in that box with Jen Hopkins getting a kick that close and with the knowledge that Lafayette High is probably the best at set plays....that is punishment enough.
