Okay. i know this is old news, but I need to get this off my chest.
When are defenders going to get any respect? We have surely earned it. I think Ashley Eusea is one of the most talented players the river parishes has ever seen, but she certainly isn't the only one.
I think I might be one year late on this post, because since Hahnville was #1 this season ( even if scantily so ) their forward should get some recognition, but last year there was only one (1) goal scored on Destrehan during all of district play. ONE GOAL! Granted, it was scored by Ashley, but it fell in a game destrehan won 2-1.
This year she didn't even score in one of the most closely contested championships ever in our district. I was hoping this year someone would tip their hat to DHS for having only 5 balls in their net in 2 years of district play, and only one put there by one of the most prolific goal scorers in the state.
This all points to a bigger issue I have: Forwards get ALL the Glory
Congrats to Ashley Eusea on a truly well deserved 2 consecutive POY awards. I honestly mean that.

I was once a defender, I know... You can make tackel after tackle, stop goal after goal, but you will never get Overall MVP unless you push up as a defender and score goals, its just the mindset of people.

Same old story - "Offense sells tickets - Defense wins championships"

A valid point--but all comes down to tangible considerations...i.e. goals allowed or goals scored.
Example:
It's harder to argue that a "defense" anchored by one of the best sweepers in the state (see DHS sweeper past 4 years) only allowed X number of goals, so she deserves the award--the accomplishment tends to be viewed more collectively...
than say...
It's easier to argue that an "offense" anchored by one of the best forwards in the state (see HHS forward past 3 years) scored X number of goals, hence she deserves the award--this # of goals is only attributed to one player, not the offense as a whole.
A flaw in the process, maybe. These publications put these lists based on all district teams, past performance, and any personal accounts they had covering the teams. Since coverage is random at best, someone will always get slighted in someone else's eyes.
In this example, me personally seeing both players in action for all of their high school years, a case can be made for either one and either one would deserve the honor.
Just my two cents on how these things are decided.
