During this hot summer, it's time to start thinking about the playoffs and the endless possibilities with teams moving divisions. The LHSAA has posted the playoff schedule on their website. www.lhsaa.org and then follow the link to the Championship Brackets page. Happy summer dreaming!

Looking at the D1 brackets--based on averages/percentages (blah) Districts 1, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are most likely to fill the 2 wildcard spots...and with District 7 (surprise, surprise) having the best chance to get 4 teams having the largest district.
Unlucky for Districts 2, 3, 4, 9, and 10, smaller numbers hurt their district win % compared to the 6 or 8 team districts (see above)!
I am pleased that LHSAA decided to take top 3 automatic as opposed to having more wildcards (less thinking and effort on their part for team selection).

The very bottom of the D1 bracket sets up a killer 1st round matchup:
10-1 (Either MCA or Dominican)
vs.
7-3 (Either SSA, MHS, or FHS)
Someone's going home early!! Be the best gotta' beat the best, right???

Be the best gotta' beat the best, right??? Take it a step further and see that the 2nd seed (SSA, MHS, or FHS) will get the 2nd seed out of District 3 (Barbe, St Thomas More, Acadiana, or Comeaux) in the 1st round and the Number 1 seed will get 10-2 seed (either MCA or Dominican) in the second round. Looks like a tough path for the top 3 seeds out of the powerhouse District 7.

No matter what schedule a person or body creates, there will always be some time of critism to it. I am sure LHSAA have gotten use to it. It goes with anything you do in life.

Oh I'm not criticizing (I'm all for what I said--to be the best you gotta beat the best--see Dominican '07), I was mainly drawing attention to that 1st round match (a doozie), and commenting that I also saw that the road is not any easier in that part of the bracket (as pointed out by barbedad20), and getting a little jab at LHSAA for making the brackets about as tough as they can get early on for the teams that in the past (have seemingly to some dejectors) gotten the benefit of an easier draw (i.e., teams from the northshore).

It makes a bit more sense than last year's idiocy.
