This must be the game that everyone is scared to comment on.
I will start off by saying that Shreveport did a fantastic job hosting the finals. Everything was very well organized and truly a great venue for this event. Kudos Shreveport, job well done.
On to the game, It is hard to top Shrevedad's play by play, but the game started out pretty even the first 20 minutes, both teams moving up and down within the mid part of the field. After 20 min. STM started to really find it's grove and attacked the outside, working the ball across the face of the goal. Barbe seemed to create it's best attacks on the counter sending the ball to #15's side of the field. Early on, it seemed like they may have been able to do something , but STM tightened up defensively to slow that attack down.
With STM scoring it's second goal close to half time, this seemed to really put STM in a good position.
On to the second half. STM came out attacking hard with the ball being played on Barbe's defensive end for a good portion early in the second half. Barbe continued to battle and had it's best opportinities of the game in the middle part of the second half on the same counter attack with number #15 getting past the defense with one really good breakaway. STM goalkeeper did a great job to come out and challenge the break away that seemed to startle #15 and she sent the shot high over the goal. From here out STM took total control of the game controlling the ball and working the ball down the field to create numerous corner kick opportunities and pressure on the Barbe defense. The last goal by STM was a nice play where STM's #11 sent the ball wide from the inside of the field to #23 who got past the outside back and sent a cross across the face of the goal that #10 was able to finish (Header) and really put the game away.
This is when things started getting ugly. Frustration showing very much with Barbe, #14 of Barbe started to lose control and committed several fouls, one drawing a yellow. Upon returning to the game, she continued to play with the same malicious intent fouling STM defenders from behind. In my estimation after a flagrant foul once again to a STM defender she should have been removed from the game with a second yellow. That did not occur. As time expired the ball is sent into STM defensive third with STM outside mid in pursuit with obvious control and position on the ball. As time expired (Whistle being blown) #14 slide tackled the STM player from behind with what seemed to be intentional to take out the player without playing the ball. This act could have seriously injured the STM player and the game was over. Horrible display of sportmanship. #14 then when on to throw a tantrum on the field by removing her shirt and then into a skirmish at the middle of the field. Confrontations occured between several people and all was controlled.
Bottom line is losing is a huge disappointment and it is understandable to be frustrated and upset. However to display that lack of sportmanship is unexcusable. In atheletic competition there are many aspects of the game that later go on to serve the athletes in life. Just like in life, sometimes you are served a manure sandwich and you have to take a bite and smile. You don't have to like it but you do have to accept it. In those occations you have to keep your composure and vow to move on with a lesson learned. In this instance, some on the Barbe side were not good sports in defeat, which seems to be quite out of character based on comments on this board and their reputation during the course of this year as being a team of good sports.

I have to agree with daflash. Barbe is to be congratulated for scratching and clawing all the way back to the finals and having the opportunity to win State. Unfortunately, a great overall performance is overshadowed by a total lack of class in defeat.

not to call you a liar, but that is not at all what happened. barbe came together to start shaking hands with stm, and a stm girl came into #14s face and started to yell at her about the game. While number #2 from barbe was watching that girl make a fool of herself, the assistant coach grabbed her and threw her out of the way and then got into #14s face and then started to yell at her because of what happened during the game.
1) that girl had no right to go up to her after they had already won. i mean seriously, drop it after the game. it was bad enough after the loss 2) the assistant coach had ABSOLUTELY no right to touch a barbe player or yell at another in her face 3) the reason #14 was "throwing a tantrum" was not because she was mad at any player, she just was extremely upset with that coach for getting in her face and screaming at her. she was in tears from what that coach had said, not from losing the game. 4) she had taken her shirt off after the game and before the "tantrum" as she does after every game with an undershirt underneath
so if you want to put a huge comment putting down barbe or a single barbe player. make sure you get your facts right next time. thanks.
bottom line is stm did not know how to win with class.

This must be the game that everyone is scared to comment on. bottom line is stm did not know how to win with class. Unfortunately, a great overall performance is overshadowed by a total lack of class in defeat. Everyone take a deep breath here......... The coaches spoke after the game and I think both coaches were in agreement that it was not pretty at the end of the game and both Head Coaches did what they could and did a great job of controlling what could have been an explosive post game. I also believe if you (daflash and md19er) had spoke with Coach John after the game he would have told you to let it go...... but you had to go there.... I will not allow you or anyone to come on this thread and make accusations about ANY Barbe player without a reply from me. Of course you have your side of the incident and I have been given mine. If you want to discuss anything concerning Barbe Soccer I have never and will never hide behind a screen name. My name is Brian Daughdril and my cell is 337-515-5887. You are free to call me at anytime to discuss the post game happenings. I commend both Coach Curtis and Coach John for their attempt to control the fire but what else happened after the game is INEXCUSABLE. I see where you just happened to leave out that one detail. Both Curtis and Principal Fraser met with the LHSAA rep after the game and a report will be made about what happened. It is unfortunate yes, it was an embarrassment to both Barbe and STM yes, and it was an embarrassment to LHSAA yes. But don't come on this thread with just your side of the story. Get your facts straight, trust me, your STM girls were no angels after the game either, and if you want to discuss the episode feel free to call me at any time. I was prepared to let it go as my coach instructed me to do so. Before you respond and call out my Barbe girls, I suggest you call coach John and get all the facts that happened. If you would like to discuss with coach Curtis, call me and I will give you his cell number. I have said on other threads that STM was the better team Saturday. I do not want this game to be remembered for what happened at the trophy presentation and was avoiding the subject but I will not allow anyone to come on here and call out my Barbe girls with only half of the story. Once again.... Brian Daughdril 337-515-5887. Get your facts straight, all the facts, and then post about the game.

There are TWO sides to every story. This one is no exception. District 3 was well represented at the DI ladies finals. STM and Barbe had great seasons. STM was the better team and won the title We are all now passed that last 1/2 of play and that last post-game incident. It's only a game. No one was seriously physically hurt. The seniors and OUR children deserve better from US parents. It's a good thing Coach John and Coach Stewart handled it and defused the situation. It's over.

shame, sounds like a very ugly ending. I do hope those letting the sport down are not honored with post season recognition.

I will start off by saying that I am a only casual soccer fan, as my name would suggest. I am also NOT a parent of a high school athlete. These were two good soccer teams that were playing for the biggest prize in the state of Louisiana. STM was the best team on paper. Anyone who argues that is living in a fantasy world, but the game is played on the field, not on paper. The adrenaline was pumping on both sides of the field, and the game was physical from the start. I am sure there was talking throughout the game, but that is part of sports. Get over it. It is when it becomes more than talking, that you have incidents like Saturday afternoon. I am not going to comment on the scuffle after the game because no one knows what actually happened except for the people involved, and you are never going to get an accurate story from either side. What I will comment on is the final few minutes of the game. The yellow card issued was the correct call. Barbe's player went in with an elbow. At this point, the game was out of reach. The score was 3-0 with under 2 minutes to go. Everything that went on could have been stopped at this point. Instead of pulling the player, Barbe's coach put her right back into the game. That is not what I would have done, but I can live with it. The player reenters the game and proceeds to blatantly push an STM player from behind. This is where the referee could have ended it. He calls a foul, which should have been another yellow card. The player turns and argues. Another chance for a yellow card, and yet nothing comes of it. It is the referee's job to keep control of the game and he didn't. From that point on, the game turned ugly.
Now a reply to centermid3. I said I would not comment on what happened after the game and I will stick to that statement, but I urge you to explain to me how STM did not win with class. I seem to remember that STM played soccer, and only soccer, for the entirety of the game. Barbe began to take cheap shots at the end with no physical retaliation from STM players. I consider that very classy. If you can't take a little talk, then you don't belong on the field for any athletic competition. The FACTS are, the game became out of reach and the physical play was taken to another level. The slide tackle with 5 seconds left was completely uncalled for. You don't see the defensive lineman blowing through the line when the winning team is kneeling the ball to run out the clock at the end of a football game.
Both teams could've handled the end of the game differently, but what happened, happened.
The bottom line is: Before you claim that a team does not know how to win with class, make sure that you know how to lose with class.
Just my two cents, take it or leave it.
