I've seen Grade 6 referees let this go, and I've seen Grade 8 call it unsporting: Player on Red with a throw in. Teammate is walking away and first player throws the ball off the back of the teammate.
Trickery? Or as Mr. Bush would say "trickeration?"

Nothing wrong with this, as long as it's not done with excessive force to the back of the head

I agree with this. Let's change the facts: What if the player throws the ball off the back of an OPPOSING player?

Same set of circumstances; was it done with excessive force? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say no, and any referee worth his weight (keep the jokes to yourselves ) will not whistle this as an infraction. If the offense has an IFK in the penalty area, and the lone attacker kicks the ball off a retreating defenders heels, runs up, and scores, would you take it back?

It all depends on force and what the intent appears to be (in the opinion of the referee). I have seen throw-ins "thrown" at an opponent with "intent" to do more than just put the ball into play. One of those things that you have to see. Hard to describe.

No excessive force is used. Just an easy throw in off a defender who has his back to the player throwing the ball in.
I saw this many times in Slidell games. Player A is throwing in. His teammate is about 6-7 yards away with an OPPONENT on his back. A throws in very hard at his teammates face. Teammate ducks, and the opponent is just about knocked out.

6-7 yds? I'd duck too.
