Well at least its not hot....thats the only good thing we can say about the weather. Mud, mud eveywhere. Referees sovered in mud and the touch lines are awful to run on. A few referees tried to use right diagonals to get ARs out of the mud. Generally, this tournament is not the time to do something you are not used to doing.
I really believe that referees need to do rights on some games to make sure they are comfortable doing it when forced to. Recommend never doing it when you are being assessed.
The 25 minute halves have been a bit stressful. Arrive at site one hour before to check in, at field 30 minutes prior to check teams. As soon as whistles blows on the field, teams and crew take the field, immediately start the game. Paperwork at the tent at the field, back to the tent for final paperwork, then the post game assessment feedback, then find your crew for the next game and immediately back to the field for a game which starts 1 hr after your last game completed. Fortunately, you only do that for two games today.
The La referees are doing well. They have gotten some very good games and have done well. No one from La has failed an assessment at this point (every game is assessed). Tomorrow, Q'finals start and everyone will work. Let's see what they end up getting.......

three of our guys had centers. One had the 18G Ntx v Stx (I think). Three had middles all told. The others had ARs and 4ths. Today the fun continues. At 4 sites and starting at 7 am again. At least one of our guys came in from the fields after midnight. Becasue of transportation issues, everyone gets up to meet in the lobby at 510 am today.

It has been a long week, with the rain delays, moving fields, and lack of sleep due to schedule changes. We have 1 center, 5 ARs, and 2 4ths working the semi-finals today. We know we have at least 3 officials working finals tomorrow, although their roles are unassigned at the moment. All of the semis are short games, u-16 and below is 35 minutes, u-17 up is 40 minute halves. Straight to kicks if tied, no other OT procedure. Many of the fans are unhappy, as expected. At least it finally quit raining, and they are bringing in helicopters to dry and dry the fields for teh finals tomorrow.

Only 2 La. teams made it out of bracket, U-16 Lakers (MSC) girls, who lost 1-0 in quarters. The NOSA 19 boys play semis today (no quarterfinals for u-19 boys), against the Dallas Texans, defending national champs

Where in the world were you hiding all tournament, I didn't see you even once during the week. You sure you were there, if so you must not have gotten out of the hotel? hmmmmm

Everyone home safe now. All are tired and glad to be home. Despite the lack of sleep, endless schedule changes, late nights, etc; the La delegation showed themselves proud and performed very well. We should be very proud of their accomplishment in what appears to me to be the worst conditions at any regional tournament. As always, we had a great time with new friends and there was some disappointment as the group split up at the airport to go our own ways, to our own corners of the state. If anyone would like to see pics from the regional tournament, go to photosbymcd.com/albums/regionals.html It will show how awful the weather and field conditions were at the main complex. The pics on the nice green turf were at offsite complexes on artificial turf. Pics from the La referees will be posted soon on the La referee website. I'll post a notice when they appear.
