My apologies for the over exuberant Dutchtown posters. I admit there is some excitement brewing in Griffinville and some express it different than others. Judging by the number of previous posts, you be the judge. I posted a recap earlier so won't boor the veterans with further rambling. I will add that in my opinion, that there was little dominance in the match last night. It was more of a balanced contest that had each team get momentum at times. Dominican was 1 shot away for most of the night. Barbedad, as always, is dead on. Nice game, but it takes 5 in a row or you're just another team that didn't win it all. I'm proud of the Lady Griffins but intensity and concentration on the task at hand contributed to the win last night, not over-confidence and overzealous predictions. Let's concentrate on the Lady Bulldogs, by the way, they can play too!

Acadiana vs FHS was a game of defense. Way to go FHS!

FHS -1 Acadiana -0 Recap of game. I was hoping that someone from FHS would give a recap, but guess they won't except for the additional words to add to this one.... so here goes. FHS came out swinging right from the whistle. Acadiana expected to spend most of their time frustrating their attack and defending in their own half, and that is what happened ......most of the time. Acadiana in the 18th minute gave up what was FHS's first cross of the game, as it found the head of a unmarked forward to put the score up 1-0. Most of the first half was FHS probing and looking for a weakness, switching the field, challengind, but Acadiana stepped up and limited their chances, which resulted in several shots taken from the 20plus yard range which GK Lefleur handled with no problem. Somewhere after the first goal, FHS was awarded a PK in the box, which was saved by Lefleur, who has had an incredible post season for the Lady Rams, securing two blocked PKs against Northshore, and a big save here to keep Acadiana close. Acadiana did get off a couple of quality shots from midfielder Stefan that had way too much promise to nearly tie the game at half. Half time score obviously 1-0. Second half was way more interesting as both teams had better possession especially Acadiana, who without Bacque actually put up a nice couple of counters sporadically all second half. Acadiana's defense along with some outstanding GK saves, frustrated the FHS attack the entire game, especially late in the second half where they were able to get a few more crosses in tight, forcing two great saves from Lefleur. Game was called fairly well, I thought there were a few calls that could of gone either way, but all in all good enough for the Hammond crew. What surprised me was how Acadiana, battered and bruised was able to counter!! The 4-3-3 formation that FHS runs lived up to its scouting report that. The front six play aggressive, fluid and show great confidence in their attack. Nice to watch. The defense was what I was told was not befitting the reputation this team usually has. FHS at times more often than not was vulnerable to the quick counter and most noticeable to speed. FHS's D will get a real test against Dutchtown. Do not let me mislead anyone, the game I saw was mostly all FHS, but what I like is how Acadiana, with nearly all their starters coming back next year will for the first time be able to compete with all that Div I has to offer. Good luck to FHS the rest of the way, as to all the remaining teams this year in their quest for a state championship. I would like to add a few more observations to the game. The unmarked forward was an unmarked Mid named Casey Adkins. She has an absolute talent for getting her head on the ball. FHS is primarily playing a 4-4-2 with the outside mids making overlapping runs or inside cuts. FHS has been almost exclusive a possession and build team all year. It was very nice to see some longer diagonal passes leading to faster attacks thrown in just to make sure the defense is paying attention. FHS took 33 shots on goal. I think Acadiana had 3-4. The weather was a significant factor as the field was wet when the game started and the rain that moved in during the game made it that much slower. It is well documented that Acadiana had injuries, what most didn't know was that FHS had at least 6 players that had been out sick that week. While most of the officiating was fine there were definitively some questionable non-calls. FHS had a forward taken down in the box from behind with no call made. One of the line judges seemed to have a difficult time understanding that you are not offsides just because you beat the ball behind the defender, you have to know when the ball is played. The Acadiana GK played marvelously. her stop on the PK that was awarded was superb. However, the pressure did not result in any more shots being taken from the 20 than what FHS normally does. You could tell that Acadiana was really hurting for speed up front. With about 8-10 minutes left they switched number 18 from defense to offense in hopes of catching FHS asleep. #18 has great speed but they were unable to make any connection due to FHS possessing the ball. Most of the defensive issues that arose for FHS were much more a factor of the wet field than any quick strike. Brianna Joseph in particular has really provided an added boost on defense along with Kelly O. I agree Acadiana showed very well and had a lot of fight in them. Next year looks very promising.

Keepernut, good additional info. I did not add the weather issue due to how difficult it was for the Hammond crew to call slips and true takedowns. Both the call and the non call could have gone either way. It was clear that there were girls slipping the entire game. I am glad it was not the difference in the game.
FHS really tested Acadiana defensively. I would of liked to have seen how they would of played 100% on both ends of the field. Defensive issues were not evident in this game, but was only commenting that they would have been a factor had Lady Rams been all there. Unfortunate for Acadiana, but something for them to look forward to next season.
Once again, best of luck to you guys the rest of the way, Lady Bulldogs are a joy to watch.

Sorry for my absence but had to be out of town for a few days and just got in. I was able to catch a very competitive game before I left and would like to comment if I may. West Monroe came to Baton Rouge to play what I thought would be a decent game but I was surprised to say the least. I had seen WM play earlier in the year but was told that a different team would show up on this night. From the start I could see that this would prove to be true. I must say that from reading BRHSfan's recap I would think he either was blinded by his support for BR or just blind period. WM had two shots on goal very early and after that BR seemed to play more of a defensive game the rest of the way. WM also played very defensive so neither team had more than 3 or 4 quality shots on goal the whole game. Number 22 for WM and number 10 from BR had a great duel all night and were clearly the stars other than the keepers. I can say that 22 was not at the game I saw earlier in the year and she clearly made a difference. I think WM got what Northshore got in the last round, physically out-played by a rougher team on their home turf where maybe they got a few more calls. The only team outmanned was the officiating crew who lost control early and tried to use a few cards later to regain order but it was too late by then. I loved the passing by BR to get the score. Obviously they saw the same weakness that I had noticed earlier in the defense. From what I hear, WM is a very young team and should be able to build on this night if they fix a few weaknesses. As I thought would happen, they wore down late because they had no bench support (probably played a total of 13 girls) and they still have some weaknesses in their defense with players cheating up and getting out of position as on the play they got beat for the score on. The good thing is that you have all offseason to correct the problems. I would also continue to play tougher teams and try to get matches with physical teams during the year so you can adjust to that style when needed. Maybe you can get some teams to come to your place but I doubt it because with the ranking system they just don't have to, so put your travelling shoes on again next year and come south. Congrats on a great season. Good luck to BRHS in the next round. If anyone needs me to come to their game in the next round and tell them what they are doing wrong then just let me know. LOL.
