What an outstanding showing of the La referees at regionals. Three state referees were named in the top 25. Three grade 7s were named in the top ARs. One of our referees was selected to attend Presidents Cup in a few weeks in Tn and another selected to attend the National Championships in Kansas. And as lagniappe, a La assessor was named the top assessor of the tournament. In all the years I have attended, I don't recall a better overall performance from a La delegation. But each person in the group was outstanding on the field. I thank them for taking time off from work and family to work in 100 degree temps, get up at 5 am and in some cases, finish games at 2 am. What a great group.
This was such an outstanding group of people and referees and we are so very proud of each of them for their work.

I don't feel real good about giving last names of officials on an open forum, but I'll go first names and those you know, you can congratulate.
Top 25 Refs (3) Doug - Lafayette Joey and Kathryn - BR
Top 25 ARs (3) Fernando - Monroe Jennifer - BR Wayne - Slidell
Presidents Cup Referee - Joey
National Championships Referee - Kathryn
Top Assessor - (As determined by the referees) - Tim - Lafayette
I cant recall a better La Showing across the board. Impressive in my opinion.

Impressive in my opinion. You are correct in that this is by far the best showing by Louisiana referees and assessors at a regional tournament in memory. They are all excellent referees and assessors, including the ones that worked the tournament but didn't win any of the individual awards. The referees called in at the last moment as replacements also did excellent work. At least one replacement on numerous days worked games and then came back and droves referees to the fields in the carts. On a side note I have to say contrary to my expressed opinions before the tournament, BRSA did a fantastic job. All volunteers worked their butts off, the hydration crews did a great job, lugging ice and heavy coolers for 12 -14 hours a day. The fields were in far better condition that I could have ever dreamed they would be three months ago, BREC stepped up to the plate during the tournament, keeping everything in tip top shape. There was enough parking (which surprised me) although after some games cars were lined up from the exit all the way around to the entrance waiting to get out of the complex. I will say my previous comments about the number of referees going down was pretty much on target. Referees from out of state just can't train under the same conditions they have to face here. To all the referees, assessors and volunteers from Louisiana and all the other states I tip my hat to you for a "JOB WELL DONE"

Yes Tony it was a great showing by the La refs. And there were a number of referees who were called in to do stand bys that ended up working games. And a whole lot of people stepped in from N.O., Covington, BR and Lake Charles to do games for nothing but the willingness to help out (referees are not paid at this event). They were so invaluable to making the event successful. And that one lady who stepped up, she went from volunteer to active referee on Sat, Sun and Monday. She was a real trooper.
And yes LOTS of referees went down during the course of the tournament. I lost count but know it was over 20. One referee ended up in the hospital in ICU, because of severe dehydration. He was in pretty bad shape. I assessed one referee who after the game was in la la land and eventually needed medical. The heat really took its toll on people.
And we were very proud of all our referees, the ones who received awards and the ones who didn't. In our opinion, all are special and deserve all the accolades possible.
