I just finished watching Barcelona's 2-0 win today, and I cannot help but post a major complaint about a tendency of referees in La Liga, EPL, World Cup, etc. I keep seeing referees yellow card players when the ball is struck right into their arm. I can understand blowing the whistle if a defender's arm stops the ball and ends a teams' possession, but when referees book players when there is no intent or even anything the player can do as the ball hits them right in the arm, it is a disgrace to the game and an insult to the players. I cannot believe the variety of high-level competitions that I have recently seen players booked for this. In my opinion, Pique's card at the end of today's game and other such examples should be taken away by the league. How can a player receive a yellow card when there is no intent and only bad luck? Absurd.

Valencia had a player sent off today against Real Madrid. It was 0-0, and he received a second yellow for what was barely a handball coming off the very upper part of his arm from a couple yards away. For some reason the referee felt the need to pull out a card, and Real took advantage of the sending off to win 2-0 in what had been a thrilling evenly-matched game. I am so perplexed by this stupid trend of referees to book players for unlucky handballs. This decision was key in helping Real stay close to Barca in the table. I think FIFA needs to do something about this absurdity - like I said above, it's a joke and a disgrace and an insult to the players to yellow card them for bad luck with the ball being kicked up into their arm. Please, please, referees, stop focusing on yourself, let the players play, and use common sense about what cards are meant to be used for. This handball thing is getting ridiculous.

i'm not sure how many FIFA referees officiating in La Liga read this board, but hopefully they'll respond if they do and give us their feedback. i haven't seen either incident, so i can't comment on these specific instances, but what i have actually seen is that officials are less likely to award a handing unless in their mind their is specific intent to handle the ball. in the tottenham/twente champions league today, twente player takes a shot that is heading to a tottenham players head from about 4 yards away. he jumps and puts his arm up in front of his face...pk was awarded. sorry, but if you have time to put your arm up, you have time to move your head.
