I don't think there was any implication of Catholic BR recruiting players. They were used in an example to illustrate what the LHSAA was trying to do with the emergency rules in response to Katrina. We could have used University, Redemptorist, St Amant....whatever. It was just an example. I haven't heard of any recruiting from any school. So many people left NO in such a hurry and they went to relatives and friends in other parts of the states. They appear to be pretty scattered. I think the last thing on anyone's mind at the time was what school can my kid go to to play sports. It seems a lot of kids are going to go to school wherever they ended up. And the priority right now is FALL sports. By the time soccer comes around I think most of the schools in the NO area will be up and running. There will be exceptions. But for the most part we shouldn't worry about it. In defense of Veteran, I have heard that Catholic BR is not taking any football players.....as Veteran explained....why take a kid who has not been in their program for the last 2-3 years. A lot is happening and quickly....we should be patient and not accuse anyone of recruiting (except that on the LHSAA website, it sure looks like a lot of out of state schools are "recruiting" some of our athletes....and I'm saying this tongue in cheek). The main concern should be how we can help everyone affected by the hurricane.

I apologize if I sounded angry about the recruiting issue. It stems more from earlier post on other theads, the private v public school debate and the lingering rumors that are being passed around town here in Baton Rouge. I guess I just used this thread for a catch all to vent.
I do hope many schools are able to come around by soccer season. Our schedule was shot. We had Jesuit, Rummel, St. Paul's, Fontainebleau, Vandy Catholic and Gulfport on the schedule this year and now they are all up in the air until I hear back from their coaches. It looks like I will be rearranging some of our schedule.
Has anyone heard the status of any of these schools?

The Fontainebleau coach e-mailed me and said he thought they would be able to play. They go back to school on Oct. 3. It looks like their schedule should be intact.

In fact, they are also taking in some of the evacuated students from New Orleans.

Veteran--
Please take no offense--I only used you guys as an example for a scenario. I have the utmost respect for Catholic HS' athletic program, and also for you as a coach. I was just trying to augment a point for discussion. And in no way do I think recruiting is confined to the Private schools either. As for not counting you guys out of the horse race--YOU GUYS ARE THE HORSE RACE!! ;D Ya'll have won district championships for what...... like 74 years straight now? Catholic HS is the standard against which all other schools soccer programs are judged in Baton Rouge. I can guarantee that we in St Amant are NOT taking you guys lightly AT ALL. A year like this for Catholic --losing a lot of seniors, and almost "rebuilding"--could have you guys at your most dangerous. Overlook Catholic while trying to get to the next game could get your team a very big asskicking. I think you guys are still the most legitimate program in our district, and with this years inclusion of Dutchtown, I still contend District 4 is the toughest in the state--Katrina or no Katrina.
Serious drag about your schedule, but I would hold off worrying about it for another few weeks. Like you said, St Tammany goes back to school Oct 3, Jefferson Parish will re populated by the same time, and the power is coming back on in New Orleans. I still believe Jesuit, BenFranklin, Bro Martin, Newman and Rummel will be out of the mix, but many other schools will be out there. Good chance for some nontraditional opponents to be added. Oh, and by the way, Vandy catholic played football tonight against Parkview--so they are open.
Please pass my email onto any coachs looking for games--as we have 2 to fill with now open dates from Newman and BF. St Amant will be glad to play anyone on those dates, home or away.
