Everyone loves to talk about goal scorers, but who are some of the best defenders out there?

In my oppinion there really can't be just one defender in the state known as the best. It's a lot harder to tell who is the best on defense compared to other positions on the field. While I agree that summerville is a good player I also have to say consider other players from around the north. I only really know Ruston Soccer and a little about the teams they have played. Ruston's sweeper and right defender are both equally good defenders and their left defender is progressing skill wise every day. I don't know if I would rank those guys from Ruston or the others listed earlier as the best defenders because everyone gets shook sometimes and everyone doesn't always get the ball. I would say though that there is a lot of talent not only in North Louisian but also in other parts of the state. All parts of the state produce their own fair share of outstanding players.

I would give my district 3 vote to Ahrens.
I think Hofland is the best on Acadiana. He is a defender with good ball skills and adequate speed. Do you agree, goat?
Over the next two years, I think Brian Prejean for Lafayette will be one of the top defenders in the state.

Can't say who is best defender in the state but I know CL has a couple good ones.
#7 Lance Fry is a 4 yr letterman and was all dist first team last year for a very strong CL team. He gave Marco of Rummel all he should handle at the thanksgiving touranment. Physically strong player.
Lonnie Crohet, a junior is playing well too. CL Coach moved him in the middle...sweeper and he's doing a good job. Good speed. Lonnie made honorable mention for the all district team last year.

There are some good defenders in the north.
John Michael Cockburn, John Kellogg, Henry Hilario, Jason Beck, Donnie Harris
Just to name a few.

credeur is by far the best on AHS.
Menard is the Best on LHS.
Delahousse and Castille are the best on Cro.
The sweeper from sulfur is their best.
the huge hawaiin gangsta on Westgate is all they have.
Hernandez is great from STM.

hey mcsruff, no i think credeur is the best defender on the rams, followed by hofland and stinson. Latiolais is alot like prejean for lafayette and will be the player thay build there defense around next year.
don't get me wrong i think hofland is very good but credeur is a lot faster and has better ball skills. i think both of them are 1 team all district allong with stinson.
i do agree with arhens as the best in dist.3 allong with that WHO DAT gaolie from barb!

Yeah goat. You're all about that Barbe keeper now, aren't you? I was telling everyone about him early in the season, but because Barbe was losing game like 8-0 no one believed me. Lafayette beat Barbe 6-1 before the Sulphur tournament and then 8-0 at the Sulphur tournament and both games could have been like 12-1 and 14-0 without Gardner in net. That is why I am so puzzled by this Barbe turnaround.
Are you saying that acadiana will have three defenders on first team all-district?

no mcsruff i don't think all three will get 1st team. i do think you can make an arguement for all three, but i don't think that will happen. belfour would never allow it, (just kidding).
arhens right now is on it and i think credeur and hofland should make it as well, then maybe menard or brennon from lafayette.

I agree with the fact that choosing a "best defender" is a difficult and confusing one bc a better defense is better than a defender... but i would give these three my votes for best defense in their respective divions DI : Acadiana Their defense is (?? kinda iffy now that this whole Barbe and Westgate trauma happened ??) one of the better in their division... yea true, maybe they let those two games slip through their fingers but i would still argue that they have the best defense in their division. DII: Saint Thomas More Their back four are four very sound players... not necessarily "joseph lapiras" but i mean they aren't to shabby... they also posses the ball in the back a lot which helps to build an attack.. i just think they may need to start bumping their back more into the attack rather than just starting the attack DIII: St. Thomas Aquinas Yea, yea, you may give me grief for this but regardless, their defense prevents goals... whether it be by stopping the attack or just by packin the box when necessary.. if your team realizes that the best chance you have to win the game is to score one and then pack the box and play a prevent D, then why not ?!?!? and STA does tend to pack the box which has been somewhat effective for them... I would also consider St. Louis' defense to be up here as well.

St. Louis's defense is sub par. They've had so few shutouts and have allowed many goals against. One game comes to mind, from the Sacred Heart Tournament. They were winning, what, 4-2 vs Catholic (or was it Vandy?) and the other team came back and won 6-4? That's just uncalled for. They have gotten better though I will admit. St. Louis's strong point is definitely their offense though. Their weakness is their defense.

In Division I, I think the best overall defense I have seen or heard of is Rummel's. I haven't heard of anyone scoring more than 2 on them in any game. They usually win or lose by 1 point. The question is how well their offense is come playoff time. I think Lafayette, Jesuit, and Sulphur have some of the good defenses that I have seen. Catholic BR's defense showed well in St. Louis. Acadiana has some good talent on defense as well. I haven't seen the Northshore teams nor CL yet, so I can't really say there.

By far, the best defender is Tyler Bonin with St Amant. He's got the speed, agility and brains to be a great sweeper. His feet never touch the ground....

On the Northshore, you give me first pick and I'll take Zack Kohler, Mandeville's sweeper.

I'd have to say one of the best defenders in the state is Alexander Connelly for Covington. He always leads the defense and the team.

Now this thread was started back in early Jan. The season is finished. Lafayette won the finals. CONGRATS!!
How many of the players named back in Jan. received all-district and maybe all-state nominations?
So for the two players I named back in Jan..........
Lance Fry was named first team all-district for two years in a row. He was also named 6-5A defensive MVP this year. Congrats to you for a great four years at CL. You will be missed.
Lonnie Crochet also was named first team all-district. Good Luck next year Lonnie.
In addition, Will Wilson was named all-district first team and offensive MVP. Was there any doubt!
To all the CL team members........Congrats for a great year and good luck next year.
Now, everyone can check who they listed and see how well you did predicting.......
