l must say duston menard is the best defender in the state. i have played in 7 state championships and 10 regional matches with him and i don't think i've ever seen anyone who could played at a constantly high quality as he has. i've seen him shut down some of the arguably best forwards in the state/region/nation. he has always been underrated in my opinion but he has always been appreciated by me especially being the goalie.with him on my backline i can almost eliminate danger on one whole side of the field and not many defenders are that strong. p.s i will miss high school soccer and wish everyone good luck in their future and enjoy while you are able to.

Dustin is very underrated, but exactly for the reason you stated, LOS. He shuts down an entire side of the field, so when you are watching the game you almost never see him actually do anything. Not that he is not doing anything, but the few times someone does test him he shuts them down and they are reluctant to go back for seconds.
Congrats on the finals...I was talking to someone today and we still couldn't believe that last defensive stand. How did y'all keep that ball out?

there are several great defenders in the state. the sweeper for shreve, the sweeper for rummel, the two inside defenders for acadiana, just to name a few. los you are right about menard he is awesome just like the other guys i just memtioned.
the best, heck i don't know, but i do know that menard would be on the short list. he is a very contoled player as well. i don't think i have ever seen he get carded.

I think that one of the best defenders in the state, if not the best, is #12 from St. Louis. He could have easily been the MVP in the Championship game.

i think his name is miller. if thats the guy you are talking about, yea he is good, but i don't think one of the best in state. heck when he played select with my son he played up top or in the mid. he is a very good soccer player but i don't think he is the best.

Your opinion would mean a lot more if you had actually seen him play defense this year.

actually i saw him play five times this year and i watched him play select with my son i know the kid. my opinion is he is very good but i don't think he is the best in the state. i think hofland who also plays on the same select team is better than he is. i think stinson who also playes on the same selact team is better than him and i think brad arhiens who also plays on that same select team is a better defender than him. once again he is a very good player and may be the best defender in Div III but not overall in the state. don't get me wrong i realy like the kid and i know he is a very good player.
mcsruff you know this kid what do you think?

All I know is that people were raving about him during the playoffs. I agree with you other than that.

you are right mcsruff we did hear a lot about him in Div III playoffs. thats why i said he may be the best in Div III, but not the best in the state.

how about franklin's defense? 0 (that's zero) goals allowed in playoffs. this statistic is a certainly tribute to goalie josh fogarty. But, as some off previously mentioned, he did not have to makea bunch of "great" saves. even in the finals, while everyone seems to agree that vandy outshot franklin, they also agree that most of those shots went straight to mr. fogarty, and, while decrying vandy's inability to finish, left unsaid was that a lot, if not most, of those shots came from long range. Obviously, longer shots give the keeper more reaction time, hence the shots "right to the keeper." but long shots usually are taken when attackers are having trouble getting in close. in other words, a tough defense to penetrate.
by the way, the main 4 defenders used in variations of franklins normal 3 back defense, were 2 juniors, 1 sophomore, and 1 freshman, so they'll all be back.

you must be crazy, melonhead.
Prejean might develop into one of the best defenders in the state, but he isn't right now. Lafayette's D line will be pretty awesome next year if he and St. Cyr continue developing their game over the spring and fall.

i agree with Los dustin menard is the best defensive back in the state.. he can play against any style forward whether they are really fast or really skilled or both... his skills come to life when he is marking up on sumone. but the best sweeper in the state would be brad ahrens from sulphur and i don't think anyone can disagree on that.....i also agree with Los how menard doesn't get the respect he deserves....Miller Flint is not the best d in the state not even close

speaking of arhens he is not only a great defense man he can his free kicks add a great threat on the offensive side of the ball. i know this from playing goalie for LHS and having to play them in district tournaments and the playoffs.

STA's center fullback Bryce Fugarino, #15, should make all state. He took Lapira out of his game the whole first half of the STA v STL semi-final game.

How would you like to play for this team. Centerbacks-Brad Ahrens & Tyler Bonin Fullbacks-Dustin Menard & Sean Moore Keeper-Jeremy Wimer
Two very smart, skilled players in the middle & two shutdown guys on the outside. Combine this with a athletic keeper. you only need one goal a game and you would win.

I hate to pop your bubble boys, but with a flat back four you don't need to have great talent to play defense. With the narrow high school fields, the gaps are alot smaller and easier to cover.
While your picks are decent players, the system also helps them look good.
