I just read on dandydon.com that Jacob Hester, one of LSU's prize recruits, plays soccer for Evangel High School and that Nick Saban will be at their game today. Is Evangel any good? Is Hester a good soccer player?
I just thought that was interesting and it piqued my curiosity about Evangel soccer, since it is never/rarely mentioned on this board.

Why would Saban be interested in Evangel soccer? This is the worst rumor ever.

Dude, he is going to watch Jacob Hester play. Hester is a running back/fullback for Evangel and has committed to play football at LSU. He is one of the top players in the state. Hester, apparently also plays soccer for Evangel. Saban is going to Shreveport to watch his recruit play in a soccer game tonight, then is having an in-home visit with Hester. I thought that it was interesting that A) one of LSU's top recruits plays soccer and B) that LSU's head coach was going to attend a high school soccer match. It also led me to wonder if Evangel was any good and if Hester was a good soccer player, since I never hear about either Evangel or Hester on this board.
Sorry if my original post was confusing...

Hester pays GK for Evangel. His brother is the boys soccer coach. Jacob's not bad in goal, but mostly just uses athletic reflexes in goal since he's not had any experience/training in GK. Last year was his first season to play.
Evangel is not a great soccer team, but they do win some games in NLa. They have MANY football players on the team and 2-3 experienced SOCCER players. Games against them can be very physical (= brutal) and the refs really have to keep tight control. Evangel home games are played on their football field, which is to their advantage, given the size of the field. Other teams must adjust to the smaller width if their passes are going to be accurate.

I still don't believe it. How would going to watch a football player play soccer be beneficial at all to him.

What are you talking about FishBish? Saban visits recruits all of the time. He takes an interest in them as people and not just football players. You don't think football coaches go and watch basketball games of some of their recruits who play two or more sports? I'm sure Saban went to watch Marcus Spears play basketball when recruiting him. This, however, was the first I had read of a football coach going to a soccer game to watch a recruit...and seeing as that makes the story relevant to this board, I posted that information. I mean, it is not just some rumor. Dandy Don is usually pretty reliable with this sort of information.

I thought it was meant that he was going there to scout him, but watch him play soccer, so it didn't make much sense. But I see that he is visiting with him and his family, so I get it now.
