It feels as if soccer in north Louisiana is dominated by ranked teams such as Loyola, Caddo Magnet, and Captain Shreve. Overlooked in this group of playoff contenders is C.E. Byrd. Once a perennial force in north Louisiana and state soccer, C.E. Byrd seems to be silently winning games this year. A fairly unknown team has quite a bit of history, getting to the quarterfinals versus Comeaux in their first (1989) playoff berth. The north Louisiana powerhouse of the time managed to arrive in the quarterfinals in 1989, 1990, 1991, and 1992. Finally, in 1993 and 1999, Byrd broke through to the semifinals, losing a 1-0 overtime contest to Slidell in 93 and getting overpowered by Jesuit in 1999. Then, in 2003, Byrd seemed to lack the power they once had. A sloppy 2-0 loss to Lafayette ended their playoff hopes. With all the history and district play thus far, where are the mighty Yellow Jackets?
Anchored by senior captain John Kelleog, the Yellow Jackets are getting prepared for the district competitions versus Captain Shreve and Caddo Magnet. With an undefeated 4-0 district record, the Jackets hope to use key players such as Post and Floyd to create offensive strikes. Without precision passing and an excellent touch, the Jackets may not be able to tackle the mammoths of district one.

Byrd started the year slowly with 2 preseason losses to Loyola and Parkway. They played in the Bossier tournament and went 1-1-1 with a 5-0 loss to Loyola. I heard Steve made some changes which included moving John Kellogg to center-mid. Those changes have obviously worked as they have not lost since the tournament. Byrd is currently 5-0 in district play. Up until last night they had not played either Magnet, Shreve, or Airline so it was hard to tell just how much they have improved. Last night they beat Airline 3-1. That tells me all I need to know. Byrd has developed into a good team who can beat anyone up here if they play well. Byrd and Shreve (6-0) play Friday night at Caddo Stadium for first place in the district standings. It should be a very good match.

Byrd has absolutely nothing... just like you said ShreveDad, they have not yet to play Shreve or Magnet... which are truely the top teams in District I... Byrd only beat Natchitoches Central 2-1 and 1-0, which Shreve and Magnet killed... and also Byrd only beat Huntington 6-0, which Magnet beat 14-0 and 11-0... and Shreve beat them 12-0... Byrd is ONLY tied for first because they havent played Magnet or Shreve... but once again, Magnet will be in second and Byrd will drop to third after Byrd plays Shreve and gets killed by them.
