I'm starting to collect stats from all of the schools in MS through our high school website. Apparently, no one entity has ever kept up with state-wide stats. I figured that out a few years ago, but I guess I was hoping someone else would take up the cause. But, no one did, and rather than let any more time go by, I've started on it.
I know y'all keep player stats for the entire season- how far back have y'all gone? Do y'all know who owns state records for the different categories, etc.? I know it's all a bit subjective, and every situation is different- just wondering if y'all handle it, and if so, how?
All I know to do is contact each and every coach I can think of and get what they have. Our coaches are now required to enter stats on MaxPreps..... but not every one does. I know your coaches are required to report here, and for the most part it seems like your state does a fairly good job of doing so.
I guess I'd appreciate any advice, directions, tried and true methods you have found- anything.
Thanks in advance.

Jason Oertling at St. Louis Catholic in Lake Charles has kept up with all of the records achieved in the state over time. We didn't start recording stats until last year. Still sort of on a trial run with most of it. But it seems we have a good bit of participation.
My advice is develop a system that is user friendly but also data-entry friendly for you. Excel/googledocs is what we use to enter data but we use this site mostly for reporting stats. Which is starting to be more of a chore than anything else.
Create a user friendly excel stat keeper form for coaches to easily input data but also easy for you to copy and paste in to main file.
That's where we are starting to lean towards.

I can certainly see the chore part. While I LOVE what your site does... and I love the sport and think it's important- I don't have the time to do what you guys do. How did your state association go about requiring coaches to report scores here? I don't coach, I'm just a former player that stays as close to the game as I can... I know in MS they are supposed to use MaxPreps, but not everyone inputs their stuff. I'm pretty sure there was supposed to be some sort of fine, but I've never seen one given. Y'all do a pretty great job. The participation is pretty awesome to me; we used to have a lot more, and I'm not sure why it's gone down, but we do tend to lose posters with the graduation of certain people- your site really doesn't.
