It is very disturbing when any team wins by many goals; however, in the spirit of the game one understands that a team cannot stop playing.
The name of the game is scoring goals - like in basketball there is no limit as to how many balls you can throw in the basket- however, that being stated ask yourself if you are doing so merely to satisfy your ego or simply because you have tried everything else and nothing worked, or things worked so well for your team, that it was unavoidable. I'm not going to insult your game intelligence by telling you, what one can do to make scoring more demanding on your team, by scoring only by headers for instance coming down field from flank runs, but everyone knows there are ways to slow down... Notwithstanding, in some recreational leagues, there is a five goal maximum differential rule enforced. Kids are for some, taught to show some kind of class by limiting excessive scoring; for others, however players are really asked to "unplay" soccer; if not to show total unsportmanship, by missing the target intentionally, therefore literally showing dishonesty. It must be mentioned, that on one occasion, when a team opted to start pulling players out of the game and playing men-down, the other coach came over at the end of the match utterly upset. She scolded the coach who was trying to avoid running the score up( while still asking his players not to lie and to continue playing) because she felt like he handed her and her team the highest insult any player could endure.
As one can observe, there is no easy answer to this situation until a power ranking system is instituted in order for strong teams to meet in the same pools. No more divisions I,II,III,IV,V according to schools' sizes; but according to power ratings.
Or maybe is it time to create a mercy rule and call it a match after so many scores?!
