I went and watched and I saw complete domination by LHS both halfs but the goalie kept the ball out the goal the first half (for the most part). The only reason the score was low was because of the weather (its hard to score when the ball cant roll 5 feet w/o it stopping). The second half LHS put 3 in to make it 4-1

Here's the Game Article from the Houma Courier for those interested. www.houmatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20040211/SPORTS/402110329/1032/SPORTS01High School Soccer Playoffs Lafayette knocks out H.L. Bourgeois in second round By JUAN ANTHONY NATHAN Courier Correspondent HOUMA -- Even with the rain as an ally neutralizing Lafayette’s offensive attack, H.L. Bourgeois could not get past the Lions in the regional round of the playoffs at Tom B. Smith stadium. Lafayette scored three unanswered goals in the second half on its way to a 4-1 victory. With the score tied at 1, Jordan Judice found the back of the net for Lafayette to give the Lions a 2-1 lead at the 20-minute mark in the second half. Eric Ellender hit a shot from the corner, which was followed by a header by Kevin Ellis, which gave the Lions (35-4) their second win in the playoffs. Lafayette will face the winner of Thursday’s Airline-Sulphur match in the next round. "What I think is we have scored a ton of goals this year, with a dry field. What I really believe, it’s probably 8-0. That’s what I believe," Lafayette coach Dwayne Belfour said. "These guys here can play. They’ve been ranked No. 1 all year, I don’t really like that, but a dry filed is a different game." H.L. Bourgeois (11-4) contained Lafayette in the first half by crowding the goal. "They did a very good job of containing us in the first half, but once you get up a goal things have to really open up because they got push up, and that’s pretty much what happened," Belfour said. With so many players staying back on defense, the Braves had a hard time of getting back on offense and trying to get open shots at the goal. "I told the guys that we need to take advantage of shots on the outside, and I played more of a defense, I stacked the defense a little bit more than usual, and that created some problems," HLB coach Rodney Boudreaux said. Vincent Thao scored the Braves’ only score by deflecting a shot past Lafayette goalie Carlos Thompson, who was caught out of position to make the save. Braves goalies Brandon Gamble and Chris Chiasson combined to make 18 saves in the match. "Our goalies played excellent, I couldn’t be more proud of our defense," Boudreaux said. "The saves that we had. The goalie was in the goal, and just the ball didn’t cross, and we saved a couple of them like that. The last few goals, those were just cheap shots."

hey mcscruff, hdkiga, fttank, and other lafayette fans. i bet you are glad you got this one behind you. the weather looks like it will only make the rest of the games more unpredicable! THAT CONCERNS ME!! congrats on the win and good luck in the future.
hey blackhawk1 remember you played against one of, if not the best offensives teams in the state, i'm sure you played great and if you are just a freshman it looks like you have a great future as well. congrats to HLB and good luck next year!

Hey Blackhawk, are you asking which team I thought played the best or which players on HLB I thought played the best?
HLB was a lot better than I expected them to be. They had some ball skill and were able to possess the ball at times. Also, y'all played really hard and proud. It was hard to guage exactly how good y'all are because of the weather conditions, though. I definitely think that if your program stays on its current course of improvement you will start to compete with CL for District 6 in the next few years.
I thought earlier in the year you said that you were the JV keeper. When did you start playing varsity? Also, do you always switch keepers at halftime? I was curious about that move. I thought you both played great, though. I just wouldn't have risked it as well as he was playing. Is he also a field player or did he get hurt? If he is a field player, then what number is he.

well we dont have a JV team.. i go to Evergreen.. thats the Junior High for HLB.. i take a bus 2 Hl for practices and all after school.. but i never played JV for HL.. we only have about 19-20 people try out for the team
we have always switched out keepers int he 2nd half.. i have had big games and so has the other keeper (brandon).. i was going to start because when Brandon gets scored on he sometimes gets rattled but we stood by what we had done all yea and he kept his head his head game all 1st half.. so we put me in the 2nd half and i just was completly off.. the ball was so hard to catch with all the mud and water... and i was slipping all the time..

Oh, I must have misunderstood about the JV thing.
Blackhawk, I thought you played just as well as the keeper in the first half. I didn't think you messed up on any of the three goals that Lafayette scored, I just thought they were nice plays by Lafayette. I wouldn't hang my head if I were you.
Goat - no, where can I find you?

why are all of you moderators and others so harsh to the underdog. unless u play for lafayette, i think there is no reason to put hld down. i know that they are not on the level of skill that lafeyette is but you could at least congradulate them on their effort in the first half and for playing a team that is that good as close as they did. thats just my opinion.

soccer ball sack,
Here's my post from earlier......
"looks like the score was about what most people predicted. A lot of predictions said 4-1, 5-1, 5-0, 6-0. I know a couple people said 5-0 at half, but I don't think they felt that way after they saw the weather. Congrats to Lafayette on the win, and congrats to HLB on a good season. Hopefully, the program will continue to progress in the direction it is. "
I think the bold does what you accused me of not doing.

who has been hard on hld? Of the people who were at the game who have posted in here, I think they are all giving HLB credit. Of course, I might be the only one who doesn't play for HLB that has posted on the game. I don't even think any of the moderators were at the game...m might have been.

wait, the junior high for HLB goes through ninth grade. And, you don't have to actually attend HLB to play varsity soccer for HLB? Also, if there is no JV, then who were the ball boys last night?

yeah b-hawk, I know y'all had ball boys, but I just assumed they were JV or freshmen players like a lot of other schools use. That's really nice of those guys to volunteer their time like that...especially last night with all the rain.
