Sulphur defeated Airline tonight 5-1 at Indy tonight in the rain. Sulphur scored 2 minutes into the match when a cross from the keepers left side hit an Airline player in the back and went in. At the 20 minute mark, a Sulphur corner kick was put into the goal. We thought it might have been an own goal as well but I'm not sure. At around the 35 minute mark Sulphur scored again to make it 3-0 at the half. Airline started out strong with the wind in the second half and Alex Curry scored about 20 minutes into the half to make it 3-1. Sulphur came right back 2 minutes later and scored off a free kick from 40 yards out that was headed over the keepers head. The Sulphur sweeper closed out the scoring with a fantastic 35 yard free kick into the uppper right 90. I want to congratulate the Sulphur squad on 2 big wins in Shreveport and wish them well against Lafayette.

It was a good game. Sulphur controlled the match. I am really impressed with the sweeper #4. They are a very good team that can play with anyone. The match started 40 minutes late due to the Byrd-West Monroe girls match going into overtime.

It was a very cold and rainy night for soccer. At least the wind wasn't blowing hard, or it would have been much worse. Sulphur was the better team tonight. They led 3-0 on the half, soft goals given up by the Airline defense. Sulphur put pressure on them, and it was able to pay them dividends. The sedond half had a little more eb and flow to it, Airline put one on the board with a rocket from Alex Curry. Sulphur responsed and put two more in the back of the net when the keeper misjudged both balls. I would like to commend the Sulphur team on the way they played. They played hard, physical, and tough. They wanted the game, and they won it. All the players, except one. In what is the most cowardly act I have ever seen on a soccer field, a back from Sulphur kicked the back of the leg of an Airline forward. The ball was atleast 50 yards away when this happened. This was a classless act by a classless player. The Ailrine player is currently in the ER, possibly with a broken leg. I hope the Sulphur coach kicks this player off his team and never allows him to play soccer again. This is the kind of incident that causes games to spiral out of control. How do I know all this happened? I was standing 5 yards from it, he was stupid enough to do it right in from on my bench. Sulphur will go on, and they will play another day. And to the team, I wish them luck. To this one player, what goes around, will come back around.

im not trying to take up for the guy but i also was standing 5 yards away and the player that was kicked elbowed him in the face and as he was walking off turned around and spit right in his face. that is also a classless act . im not trying to take up for the sulphur player but im just stating what happend since i saw the whole thing. also during the first half that same airline player was taking the sulphur defense out from behind every oppurtunity he got. i think he had 3 fouls in the first 10 minutes all from behind. but i guess this guy has class when he fouls from behind, elbows in the face, then spits in our players face.

While I did not see the kicking incident, we were sitting right above the Sulphur parents and I also saw the 3 cheap fouls the Airline player committed in the first half. Any of the three were cardable in my opinion and the referee finally got him on his 4th offense. While you can never ever condone a kicking incident like that, my guess is that he was provoked. If what imeg4fun says is true that is just as serious as the kicking, if not more. I thought Sulphur was very composed all night, both teams committed hard fouls and the referee let them play for the most part. All cards given were well deserved. CoPlRef said "what goes around, comes around" I think it may have in another way last night.

well if imeg4fun says it happen that way then i know it did. you are right shrevedad it looks like what goes around came around for the airline player! i am not in any way condonning the sulphur players actions he should have keep his cool.
shreve dad i have been saying all year that sulphur has the best set piece team in the state. sounds like they had success again last night. #4 is brad arhens, he plays select with a lafayette team and is coached by the acadiana head coach. he is a great player. if you give him any space on a free kick he will make you pay.
good luck to the tors, next game will be a very tough game against lafayette, but you get them at home, (are ya'll changing your home to indy). congrats again.

I haven't seen any team do a better job on set pieces. I saw Sulphur score 10 goals in their two matches up here. 7 or 8 were scored off set pieces. Every corner kick dropped in between the posts. Their sweeper was routinely kicking the ball 65-70 yards with the wind and 50+ yards against the wind. I asked the Sulphur parents and was glad to be told he is a senior. Whew! Won't have to see him next year. Good Luck to Sulphur the rest of the way.

Where were the officials from for the Sulphur v Airline Match. I know the game was played in Shreveport, but did the game have local officials?

It seemed to me that the farther Airline got behind the dirtier they played. The Sulphur player that took out out No.2 just had enough of it. I don't condone what he did either but for the most part officials let games get to that point. For all you guys that think a ref that "let's them play" is a good thing, I disagree. A foul is a foul and should be called regardless of the game situation with the exception of the advantage rule. I have watched high school soccer for four years now and have never seen so much inconsistency in officiating.

I would like to make a plea for help and information. I believe in running a clean program. One where players play soccer and not go off into the pits they may have ventured into last night. That type of behavior on the field can not, and will not be tolerated. So, what I am asking for is simple. Any information that you can give about the precipitating events would be most helpful. I saw the kicking incident and do not need that replayed, but everything leading up to it would be nice. I would like to gather as much information as possible before I make my final decision on discipline in this matter. Please send me a private message if you would. I apologize for the actions that may have led up to this unfortunate event.
