What a performance the Vandebilt Terriers put on tonight. Bravo!
Vandy from the opening whistle to the last played some good soccer. This is the best looking team I have seen yet. I only base that off of seeing tonights game, so be easy on me for saying this. Neville may not be that great, but Vandy played superior soccer from start to finish.
What I liked from this Vandy team tonight was their ability to play in all three thirds of the field. In the defensive third, they rarely committed mistakes, although I do remember one, but it was harmless and well covered by the second defender becoming first defender. They were connected with the mids who were able to keep possesion and move the ball into space and work it around maintaining possession. Neville played their hardest but they were facing some tough competition. Vandy moved it from the middle third and they rarely if ever, broke down transitioning to the attacking third. In the attacking third, Vandy players were taking on opponents 1v1 and being aggressive. The pace was fantastic and so was the crossing. Peirron got the first goal on some nice setup work where the Terriers who had been knocking on the door for the first ten minutes, were fully in shooting position, in that all the mids and forwards are within or near to Nevilles penalty box. Instead of making a wild shot, they were composed, played their game, kept the ball moving, and played for the best shot. Peirron took a ball played back to him on the goal line to the top of the box, where he was facing goal. Peirron made a cool first touch, and ripped it into the goal. Later goals came and the Vandy team never let up, but instead played a full game from start to finish. The play of (sorry if I don't know all of your names) van Huyswick, Peirron, Bloom, Jordan, Raul Doria, and Lyons and others was fantastic. I may have forgotten a few and I apologize because you played well too. During the backup's period at the end of the game, the Willy guy looked like he could hang with the starters too. Vandy played 3 goalies tonight and I think he got the most action when he got to make two punts in the second half. The half time score was 4-0 and Neville got their goal on a nice quick shot on a restart while Vandy was trying to set up the wall by the third string keeper and defenders late in the game. I remember a nice flick on 1st time goal that went into the side netting. That was real nice. But anyway, Vandy looked really good. I have a few things more to say but I will leave it succint and say that Vandy was strong tonight.
