Probably the most fun I had at a game not played by Lafayette was the Catholic/Acadiana game. I really enjoyed Catholic's style of play.
St. Louis, for obvious reasons, was also a fun team to watch.
But my favorite team to watch this year was NISH. They swarm to the box like bees to a hive.
BTW - this was my 400th post...man, I'm a geek.

I forgot to tell why I liked the teams I mentioned above.
Catholic plays great possession soccer. They display beautiful passing skills. One-two passes and beautiful diagonal passes to the flags are the norm. They can give and go on the sidelines with the best of them...those are always so fun to watch develop. Their keeper has reallyy sure hands. He just seemed to efortlessly gobble up shots. I can't remember him bobbling or dropping one shot...I'm sure he did, but no instances come to mind. Their d plays tough and is able to stand attackers and get the ball back to the offense very fluidly. Just a joy to watch.
As for St. Louis. When Lapira is on, he is on another level. He plays the game so fluidly...I guess I am a fan of fluid soccer since I have used the word three times, now. Anyway, sometimes Lapira can just flow around the field, like he is the only player out there. Anyone remember how people used to say that playing baseball was like playing Nintendo for Ken Griffey, Jr. back when he was in Seattle? Well, that's what I am reminded of when I watch Lapira.
About NISH, I was kidding.
Nintendo was a video game system that came out in the mid-late 80's. It was an early predecessor to the game cube.
Also, what I meant to say is that I am a geek necked dweeb.

My two favorite teams to watch were also Catholic of BR and St. Louis.
I think you summed it up pretty well mcscruff about catholic. They play the best possession game that I've ever seen in high school soccer. Truely a pleasure to watch them play.
St Louis is just great to watch because they play so well as a team. And of course, Lapira.

Other than Shreve for obvious reasons, best teams to watch up here are Magnet, Loyola, and Airline. Best match I saw all year was St. Louis and Lafayette in the showcase tournament. I had heard about Lapira and he lived up to everything I had heard about him.

Wow, SD. I didn't see the Lafayette/STL game, but I'm glad I didn't. It was the best GAME you saw? From what others have told me it was pretty much an STL domination.
Hey SD, do you think that Shreve is going to make it to any other I-10 tournaments besides the Showcase next year?

I thought Ruston was a fun team to watch this year just because of the team accomplishments they made. They won district for the second year in a row, they made team history by wining a playoff game, and also performed well during the regular season. An example of the teams growth would be losing to St. Freds 6-1 early in the season and then coming back after some team modifications (goalie mostly) and tying St. Freds 1-1 later in the season. Other noteable teams Ruston played were Loyola (T 1-1) Captain Shreve (L 4-0) Parkway (W 2-1) & Vicksburg (L 2-1). Since Ruston is only losing 4 seniors, two of which were starters, they should be just as good if not better next year. Just have to wait and see. Hopefully one day they'll be able to make a shot at the state championships.

The think I liked about that match was Lapira. St. Louis won by 2 or 3, but every break seemed to go against Lafayette that night. I know they had 1 goal called back and it may have been 2. You gotta remember, up here we don't get to watch 2 really good teams play very often.
I have been told that our coach wants to play as tough a schedule as he can next year. If Shreve is ever going to do anything in state, next year will be the year. I would like to see them play the Showcase and the St. Pauls tournament next year. I would also recommend the Sulphur tournament if it is on Thanksgiving weekend. The coach will need the committment of the players and parents to give up two of three weekends of the Christmas break. We play 14 matches in district, so if we play 3 tournaments how many more matches can we play? I think he would like to come down south and play a team or two if we can.

This past season, the Sulphur Tournament was the first weekend of December. The Northside tournament here is Lafayette was on Thanksgiving weekend. While it doesn't get the pub that some of the other tournaments get, it had a pretty strong field this past year. Three of the four DI teams in the semis were there...Jesuit, Acadiana and Lafayette. Probably not as deep of a field as other tournaments, but was there another tourney with as many state semifinalsts?

I'll echo both McScruff and CatchAFishBish. As a team, Catholic BR played the best posession soccer I have seen in a while, especially on a wide field. Simply put, they were a pleasure to watch.

I loved to watch Jesuit play this year, in some games they moved the ball around so well that they possed it for minutes. I also liked to watch a lot of the Northshore teams play because of the individual skill of some of the players over here. CL and Acadiana were also fun teams to watch

honestly my favorite team to watch this year was westgate because they never quit hustling and they play 80 minutes of soccer even if they are down by 5 goals

My favorite team to watch was either St. Louis or Jesuit. The reason for St. Louis has the initials JL. Jesuit in the playoffs has been my favorite team. They have had periods of just total domination and fluidity on the field. They have been a real pleasure in the past few weeks to watch.
