I just wanted to say a great big thank you to Mark Matlock on the Red River Classic tournament this past weekend in Shreveport, put on by he Shreveport United Soccer Club. With over 140 teams participating, playing games at four different locations and the weather being iffy all weekend, it was a great turn out and some great teams. Way to go Mark and here is to another great tournament next year.

I will second this. Those Freedom Fields are nice. We were fortunate to have two Saturday afternoon games there and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and facilities. Does anyone know the outcome of the U14G Silver bracket? We lost our semifinal match and left for home but I noticed the finals match was scrubbed from the bracket. Did the weather finally roll in?

jcstewart, I will let Mark Matlock comment on the U-14 Girls Silver bracket. I don't want to put wrong information out there. I can tell you that my daughter plays on the SU U-14 girls team, and something happened with the scoring. It was a great weekend of soccer and the rain held off until after it ended. Freedom fields are an awesome place to play. To have 3 turf fields in one place is great.

I was leery of the multiple sites but it wasn't a problem. I liked the stadium at Lee Hedges. My daughter was not a fan of turf though. I think it was a good experience for them to play on that surface although the few that took sliding spills were scraped up.
Overall a good tournament.

Other than the Freedom fields, the field conditions were poor. We did get lucky with the rain allowing many league games to be played. The level of competition at the girls U15 level was low.

Seemed like a common theme with this group to basically not be happy with anything. Given the rain we have had and having 5 turf fields going I thought the fields were in great shape. There were 4 out of the 6 teams from the C1 state league participating in the u15 bracket. So really what you mean is the u15 age group just isn't very good in LA...not just in our event. I was disappointed in the parents for this team that walked up to the tournament tent after the final and said just give us our medals and trophy so we can go home. I realize it's a long trip and this team would not have been here if league games didn't need to be played. The weather was perfect for the first time all spring and 99% of the feedback received was positive. Our goal is for everyone to have a great experience so I apologize if your team did not.

The two teams tied in points also tied head to head and had the same goal differential. A shootout determined who advanced to the final when in reality the 4th tiebreaker was most goals scored up to 5. In their final bracket game the SU team won 5-0 and the other team 4-0 so that should have broken the tie. The SU team is aware of this and has been very gracious in their understanding as this explanation was the extremely short version. Ultimately they should have played in the final though.

If it's the team that I am thinking about, maybe they should have opted in to play in RPL. Would have definitely increased their competition level.

Thanks for the explanation. I saw the deadlock but never read the tie-breakers and how deep they had to go in them since we were not involved in any. Props to the SU team for their understanding and you for a smooth running event from our perspective. Even with the short time between games we never had one that started more than a few minutes late. Very impressive considering the size of the event.

We played all our games at Cargill and the fields seemed to be in great shape for the amount of rain Shreveport received during the week before the tournament. The Thursday night before the tournament, we had a bad storm come thru and dumped quite a bit of rain. Everyone involved did a great job of getting all the locations ready. The entire SU staff did an excellent job. We had tremendous support from all the parents, and I will even say the referees from around the state did an outstanding job. There will always be hiccups in every tournament, but Mark showed true character in handling any concerns that came up during the tournament.

I did not create the thread, I just responded. Did not say that the LA U15 C1 bracket lacked competition. There were two teams that lacked their full compliment of players, mostly starters. So their teams came in watered down, which was disappointing. Some how you missed that, but I guess that did not fit into your spin. The fields we played on were poorly marked and beat up inside the 18. Not sure about the metal grab, but could have been a result of frustration in avoidable delays in the finals. I wish you good luck in your respective State Cup run.

What an incredibly Amateur and Ignorant thing to post! So the only way to find quality competition, if you are a Louisiana team, is to go out of state. Wow! And you probably thought you were being clever. Taking the previous year's state cup champions and finalist out of the C1 LCSL rotation, and only playing RPL teams, hurts the state. State teams train harder and look forward knocking off the state champs. Why take that right away from our local teams? If there was an option to do both LCSL and RPL, then we would have played RPL. People always want to comment on what they do not understand!

People always want to comment on what they do not understand! Correct Laffysoccermom and counter her words but you do yourself a disservice by calling her ignorant. You generically stated the level of competition was low and she responded to that. The way you originally worded it was a disservice to the other C1 teams represented. This was your post on the competition level with no explanation. Only after Copa called you out did you expand on that. If you had explained yourself in the initial post as to missing starters perhaps Copa would not have felt that need. I am not saying you are wrong or right on your intended points as I have no idea. Just that you seem to want to be better ways to address some items or perhaps they do not need to be addressed at all.

myarsenal - A lot of accuracy and wisdom in your response. The only thing I would like to clarify is that I did not, nor would not, call an individual ignorant. The comment was ignorant, meaning lack of experience and knowledge to propose such a theory.

All I meant was that you probably could have found more competition in RPL because I took your comment as being more generalized comment about lack of competition than what you apparently meant.
I wasn't trying to be "clever" but it would be an obvious solution if that was your complaint. Obviously it wasn't and you feel strongly that opting out was best and that's fine.
