This was probably the best group of refs I have seen this season and I came away very impressed with their communication between each other, making consistent calls but also let the boys play. Hopefully we see this crew more often than not. Just thought I'd drop this right here. Well done Lafayette crew! Proud of those guys. Seems like there should be one more vote in the "Excellent" column.

I’d be curious to here which associations teams and fans think have done a good job. There will always be calls disagreed upon, but who managed the game well. I don’t think associations (area refs are from) and the referees themselves get recognized at all for good games. I always feel if the losing team walks off the field and tells the referee he or she did a good job, that’s very telling. You will rarely hear about those games.
Give credit where it’s due. If you have a game with a good crew let them know.

Throughout my daughter’s club and high school soccer career- I always thought the Houma refs did great jobs. They generally seemed like they wanted to be there and were enjoying what they were doing. They also seemed to have one liners for putting “knowledgable” parents in their place. Didn’t always agree with the calls but I always left feeling they did the best they could.

Our group has come a very long way from a couple years ago. Still things to iron out but we have been working hard and glad someone noticed.

I’ll give you one example of why I like them. Was standing in line at concession stand. We were discussing the game and I said I didn’t understand the call. I didn’t realize a ref was behind me who happened to be the ref that made the call. My friend was expecting him to either ignore us or same something ugly. He just asked if I really wanted him to explain. He spent 15 minutes explaining and answering my questions.

And we appreciate spectators that will be patient and listen, instead of just shouting us down and telling us we are wrong.

Crew from Lafayette that my girls had in the semifinals was very good (and my team had a red card). Center had himself if good position to make calls and was clear in his decisions. Only question I had was there was a bad tackle from behind right along the sideline that made me think about how you apply the rules given the circumstances of the play. The player was dribbling toward the line and then cut back inside, the AR put his flag up to signal the ball had just crossed the line...at about this same time the player was tackled from behind in what was a clear yellow card challenge (picture Karate kid - sweep the leg). The explanation was that the ball had crossed the line just before the tackle, therefore there is no foul (which I understand) and no card (which is my question). Should the player still receive a caution due to a wreckless challenge in this situation?
