I would bet my life that the out come of the brackets will be: Bracket A - University Bracket B- McKinley Bracket C- Brother Martin Bracket D- St. Amant It's a good pick. I would say Woodlawn instead of McKinley. The final is University 1 - 3 Brother Martin. It'll be fun.

Looks like it all boils down to tomorrow's contests against #1 and #2 seeds in each bracket. East Ascension vs. University (A), Woodlawn vs. McKinley (B), Brother Martin vs. Dutchtown (C), and St. Amant vs. West Feliciana (D). The only abberation from the seedings so far is St. Amant 1 - 1 Bishop. It's been very predictive.

Here is an update. Pool A: University beat East Ascension 1-0. University had many opportunities, but E.A. goalie was superb. He must have saved two or three sure shots with his wide coverage of the field. His mobility, however, took a toll at the end. A long ball came to UHS strikers and the goalie. The ball got loose, and UHS's Trey Freiberg kicked to an empty goal. The game got ugly at the end. UHS was playing to kill time to preserve the lead. The ball went out of bound off an E.A. player. Being in no hurry, UHS player looked for a ball boy, and couldn't find him. He was 70 yards away. E.A. player picked up the ball himself and threw the ball AT THE UHS PLAYER'S FACE. That was bad. The ref didn't give any card (he should); he summoned both players and talked to them. A couple of minutes later, the same E.A. player charged UHS goalie, called foul, and got hurt himself. UHS goalie must have said something to him and got a red. As somebody in the stand said, the ref lost control when he didn't give the E.A. player a card when he slammed the ball to UHS player's face. Pool B: Woodlawn beat McKinley 1-0.
Pool C: Brother Martin beat Dutchtown by shootout after 0-0 (I think). Pool D: West Feliciana upset St. Amant 1-0. St. Amant dominated the field, but just couldn't finish. For the tournament, they scored two goals in three games.... W. Feliciana's only goal came from, predictably, a long ball. They made a goal off very few chances. Both teams looked a little tired after playing two games yesterday, though it was their first game today. Semifinal 1: University beat Woodlawn 2-0. UHS played their usual "kickball" and used their speed. The first goal came off a nice, long feed 9 minutes into the game. UHS striker, David Phung, made a clean goal. The second goal was off deflection by a Woodlawn defender, an own goal. UHS defense was quite solid, and Woodlawn had few scoring opportunities.
Semifinal 2: HALF TIME SCORE Brother Martin 1 - 0 West Feliciana

flat3, let me me start by saying that I was at the EA game and am not a fan of either team, (just killing time and watchin soccer) and I agree that the ref did lose control but he lost control way before the incident with the goalie, from where I was sitting, the EA player tossed the ball back to the UHigh player to throw in and the UHigh kid made absolutely no effort to catch it, he then stood there, stalling, and waiting for an imaginary ball boy that was never going to come, completely unsportsmanlike on his part, when the EA player ran to get the ball and threw it back, he did throw it at the UHigh player (which I don't condone) but the UHigh kid made no effort to catch it, it had no where to go but to hit him. So I thought they both should have been cited for their behavior.
However, the goalie threw an elbow and tangled a leg, he made it look like he was defending himself but, it appeared like retaliation, goalies are known to push the line sometimes and I think he just got caught and then let his mouth send him on out of the game.
My opinion, humble as it may be, is that the teams were frustrated, and when it starts to "bubble" as with the throw in incident, it needs to be squished, then and there. Then other kids won't feel like they need to "get a player back."
It was such a great game up to that point and it unfortunate that certain incidents dictated the way players played. Oh Well! Good Luck to both teams in their seasons.

I do appreciate your answer wlfrocksccrstar... I usually do not reply or answer to any post, I just read them and keep my opinion to myself. BUT I do not appreciate when flat3 is bashing one of my guys without explaining the entire situation (job well done by wlfrocksccrstar)... I think both players should have gotten a yellow! I do not tolerate any bad behavior or unsportsmanship from my players on the field... And flat3, if you want to know, the UHS goalie got kicked out for bad mouthing that the sideline ref caught and reported to the center ref! Overall, a good game from EA even if I believe we could have been better in offensive production... Very strong defense from UHS (good job guys)!

Brother Martin proved why they are a highly touted (sp?) team in 5A. They play a VERY good possession game maybe touch the ball too much in front of the goal, but played very well.
Dutchtown/Bro. Martin Summary...
I'll correct Coach Ray from another thread..and I think it was just a typo. I think the first half was back and forth...not sure if either team dominated but Dutchtown did have their better chances in the first half. Shots on goal were 5-2 Brother Martin's way, though both team had several attacks and just didn't come up with shots because of good defensive play. The second half Brother Martin had the advantage offensively. We tried a different look and it did not work well. I take credit (aka..the blame) for that decision. It hurt us with attacking but allowed us to continue to turn Bro. Martin's attacks away. Second half had Bro. Martin with 4 shots on goal to Dutchtown's 2. Total shots on goal 9-4 in BM's favor.
Overall I think Dutchtown had a good weekend with no goals given up in regulation to Episcopal, Redemptorist, and Bro. Martin...losing to Bro. Martin on PKs. HAHA...NO GOALS given up in regulation in "bracket play" and you don't advance..how often does that happen??...Credit Bro. Martin. The better team on this day won the game. It went to PKs as both teams were tied in points at the end of bracket play. Credit BOTH keepers. Bro. Martin's keeper played a great game and is very mobile and anticipates well with big stops in the PK shootout. Alex Chapman had a great game on a bum ankle. I give him credit for sticking it out for us. He made 4 big time saves on an ankle that was taped inside and outside of the shoe. It's good to have players that can "suck it up" and play through pain.
Dutchtown has played Rummel twice, Ben Franklin, St. Martin's, and now Brother Martin and from those I believe Bro. Martin has the better team. That's not to say any of those teams couldn't beat the others. But for pure possession and building attacks BM works together really well. I do think they could get more shots off in some situations, however.
Very pleased with our overall play against top teams.
Obviously we are still working on offensive opportunities against quality teams. We learned something today about ourselves that won't work in tough games...this is part of playing the games. We'll look to improve this Friday in Lafayette against another QUALITY opponent in St. Thomas More.
As far as other teams in the Tournament goes...
No big surprises for me...Uhigh showed they can play in big games...and create chances though I think BM's style of play because there is so much movement begins to wear on them after 3 games. BM probably would not have had as much trouble in this game on a "normal" night...but who knows. BM won the final 3-2 over UHigh. But good job by both teams. None of the other results surprised me.
An OBVIOUSLY BIASED opinion, but I thought the brackets could have been drawn up differently, to maximize the chances of creating the BEST semifinals and FINALS with the better teams playing in each.

from where I was sitting, the EA player tossed the ball back to the UHigh player to throw in and the UHigh kid made absolutely no effort to catch it, he then stood there, stalling, and waiting for an imaginary ball boy that was never going to come, completely unsportsmanlike on his part, when the EA player ran to get the ball and threw it back, he did throw it at the UHigh player (which I don't condone) but the UHigh kid made no effort to catch it, it had no where to go but to hit him. So I thought they both should have been cited for their behavior. I didn't see "the EA player tossed the ball back to the UHigh player to throw in and the UHigh kid made absolutely no effort to catch it." Believe me, that UHS player is NOT one of those kids who play that way. I thought the ball simply went out of bound, beyond the track to the stadium. That UHS player looked for the ball boy as any players would do. Since the ball boy was 70 yards away (behind the goal to our left. I had to look for him myself), it took the UHS player long time to realize he is not close. In the meantime, EA player got frustrated (with a good reason), got the ball himself, and threw at the UHS player. In retrospect, I must have missed something, since the ref talked to both players. I apologize if I didn't report it right for the first time. However, the goalie threw an elbow and tangled a leg, he made it look like he was defending himself but, it appeared like retaliation This I couldn't see. I thought the play was clearly a keeper charge. The ref also called against the EA player. the teams were frustrated, and when it starts to "bubble" as with the throw in incident, it needs to be squished, then and there. Then other kids won't feel like they need to "get a player back." I agree.

BUT I do not appreciate when flat3 is bashing one of my guys without explaining the entire situation (job well done by wlfrocksccrstar)... I think both players should have gotten a yellow! Again, I am sorry if my initial report was wrong. My reply to wlfrocksccrstar was what I saw. if you want to know, the UHS goalie got kicked out for bad mouthing that the sideline ref caught and reported to the center ref! I thought I reported it myself.... By the way, what did you think of the LENGTH of the second half of that game? According to our watches, they must have played 45+ minutes for 30 minute half. I felt it way too long even with injury time. Good luck on EA for the rest of the season!

Brother Martin 3 - 2 University It was a very exciting game to watch. At the end, a better team (BM) won, but the other team (UHS) had a chance to pull an upset. BM controlled the midfield, as expected, and passed the ball around very well. As good as Laffy did against UHS earlier in the season. At 5 minute mark, BM scored the first goal off a middle shoot just outside the box by Ryan Gray (correct me if I am wrong). UHS came right back when David Phung stole the ball from BM defense, floated it above the goalie's head, and scored his 6th goal in the tournament. This was the first goal BM allowed in the five games of the entire tournament. After a while, Charlie Provenza of UHS kicked a long cross from right hand side to the other side. Luke Delouise waited behind all defensive players and nailed it to the goal with an absolutely beautiful header. This goal must be the prettiest one of the season so far for UHS. UHS up 2-1. BM came back with a strong shot which deflected off Shota Kamo's foot in the injury time of the first half to tie the game at two. Though officially an own goal, it was a shot with a force. BM's last goal came in the second half. The ball touched one of their players' hand (I thought it did, anyway), the official didn't call it, and UHS players were appealing it. BM took the opportunity of the lapse of concentration of UHS defense and shot from outside the box. That ball was a nasty "sinker" which went down without any rotation and slipped beneath the goalie's hands. A great shot indeed. BM players know how to shoot to the goalmouth (i.e. shoot low). UHS tried to come back with all the players upfront but couldn't materialize. UHS showed their heart to win in this game. Congratulations, Brother Martin, on great tournament wins. I think UHS made a strong statement also. New ranking will be interesting.
