Every summer LHSAA sponsors all-star games in volleyball, basketball(boys and girls), and football in Baton Rouge. This year they are on July 20-VB, 21-BB, and 22-FB. I'd like to see soccer added to the mix, like Alabama does. You divide the state north/south or east/west; select 20-24 players for each team( I'm not sure how the other sports do their selections, but that would be the model soccer could use); and schedule the games( boys and girls) on the 19th or the 23rd. Any thoughts?

could you imagine getting the top kids from 2 or 4 regions together. man the caliber of play has the potential to be out of this world! Where is the proposal or petition to make this happen? I'll sign it.

I say do 4 regions... Have Regions 1 and 4 play each other and 2 and 3 play each other on the 19th.... Have the championships on the 23rd...
The reason i say 4 regions, it makes it alot easier for these teams to practice because they will be closer together... The only bad part is, transportation to everything....

putmein,
why not talk LSU or some other college willing to host to put them up in dorms for a few days and let them practice there. Each region has a major college in it. And colleges love to have high school students on their campuses, it helps them with recruiting.

First off i think you would have to hace LHSAA approve of it... I honestly think they wouldn't do it without LHSCAA meeting about it...
In order for it to be a high school even and be recognized, they have to approve of it... If they do approove of it, they wouldn't let me, a high school student, get everything together to host it... They would have one of there own do it...
it presents more problems then it looks like... 1. You must have a Region Coach (one from the region, and they have to be elected) 2. You must have a criteria for this team, you will face problems because some will thing the rules are unjust... 3. You must have someone to host the event.. I would think LSU would do this, but its to get them into the idea... 4. Who runs the event?? You have to have set guidelines for if there is a tie and such... You also have a tournament director on site for the games incase rain or such becomes a factor... They defantly wouldn't let a high school student do this... 5. Referee's... Finding soccer referee's during this time might become a problem...
Here how to solve the problems i mentioned...
1. The LHSCAA meet to deside the alldistrict teams, and all state teams... Have them decide on a coach from each Region 2. Have them play 2... 40 minute halfs... If a tie is aoccured you must have a 2 OT of 15 minutes a piece... If results in a tie, PK Shootout... 3. Im sure LSU would host the event, if they wouldn't might be able to have it at Tad Gomley somehow?? If not i am sure some college or school would GLADLY host it... 4. If sure we can find someone to run/put on this event 5. Contact an association EARLY to make sure you have referee's

6th is the proposal.. Getting signatures on it is a major problem... Since all alot of tournament are over, you can't bring it to the tournaments for the players to sign it... Therefore its hard for the proposal to be in one central area for people to sign it....
However an alternative to this is, whoever rights the proposal, you can have people email them with an e-mail stating, " I, John Dufrene, have read the propasal and recommend that you approve this for the better of the soccer program across louisiana"... or something of that nature... That person adds you 2 the list and in ( ) write your email address... Print a copy out of it, and attach it to the proposal for varification

Putmein, don't put yourself down, for a high school student you sure know your stuff, in addition who says that a group couldn't get together and propse this, you know we talk about stuff on this board but how about some action. Over ten years ago (dark ages) when they didn't have a whole lot of quality tournaments for girl's soccer, my team complained, and a parent got sick of listening and acted. He ended up proposing to the LHSAA and UNO a plan to start a great tourney, in which they UNO sponsored, the Holiday Classic, which BTW was run by two people, just two, for several years. And is today one of the premiere tourneys for girls. Putmein if you are interested I am sure you could get the backing. Contrary to popular belief there are more people in Louisiana that want to see soccer advance then not. If you are interested I still know that parent from years ago maybe we could bug him again Are you a senior?

I just looked on Alabama's high school athetic website, ahsaa.com, and their all-star week is put on by their state athletic directors and coaches association, which operates under the auspices of their state athletic association. The AD/Coaches Association names the coaches for the all-star teams in all the sports. Member coaches submit the names of their players that they want considered for all-star rosters using a standardized form, with a March deadline. Only players who have completed their Junior year are considered. All-Star week, held in Montgomery, also incorporates clinics and special sessions for coaches/AD's/administrators/referees-officials as well as product vendor expositions. It sounds like they do it right. It also sounds like it's going to take our coaches and AD's to get behind the idea to make it work. Talk it up starting Monday! Tell your coaches/AD's that you want this to happen in LA,
