I’ve enjoyed all of the seasons and have a few final thoughts before we break and a few things to explain with the full truth:
My final top 10 list of teams all divisions:
1. St. Paul
2. University of BR
3. Catholic of BR
4. Dutchtown
5. Vanderbilt
6. Newman
7. Holy Cross
8. Loyola
9. Denham
10. St. Thomas Moore
My final list of top 5 players I saw this year in a match
1) Zayne Dutchtown
2) Dufour St. Paul
3) Rider U. High
4) I do not know his name #31 Holy Cross
5) I do not know his name #2 Forward HL Bourgeois
Honorable mention:
Julian Lafayette
Alex Leonard Catholic
Goalie for Vanderbilt sorry I don’t know the name
Hardest worker I saw all season:
Ulrich Gaffney St. Amant #5. Kid brings it every game!
The truth about becoming a wolf. Coach Adrian and St. Amant was so banged up all season, and especially on the back end that I didn’t want to put any extra pressure on the team by talking about the gators. The injuries included one of the best goal scorers in the state Bridgewater and my child with a stress fracture that he suffered during the copa from shin splints but played on for 12 weeks. I let him decide because it was his senior year and he chose to play. Since I have to have something to do, I chose between Vanderbilt and St. Paul.
Since St. Paul disliked me the most, I told Coach Adrian I’m going to be a wolf for a month. He laughed and said your nuts as he has said for several years. Plus, this was a time when I was really messing with the private schools. I do not ever want a split, and I love that so many families make a huge sacrifice to attempt to get their kids the very best education possible. I do not think anyone makes this type of life decision based on soccer. I’m a devout catholic, and my wife has taught in Catholic schools for 20 plus years. We love the Privates and hope to beat them someday. Until then, we would like a little room to cry about all that talent Catholic and St. Paul has. I made some life long friends in Vandy, Uhigh, Loyola, Sterlington, Byrd, Shreve, Catholic, Slidell, McKinely, Fontainebleau, Caddo, Menard, Beau Chene, Holy Cross, Mandeville, Lafayette, North Vermillion, Teurlings, Bonnabel, East Jeff and even two at St. Paul. The post and write-ups were always intended to be fun and for the kids. The board exploded as a result, and many felt included or targeted. The written word is a powerful tool!
I only poked the schools that I knew would react, and Vandy played along with the very best. I even ended up at a pep rally there and loved those kids very much. I got a plaque from Mandeville, a scarf and hat from Loyola, and more nasty text and emails that I can count. Hopefully, this cleans up most of the soap opera and puts the antics of Gallstar in a proper perspective. I’ll be back next year to stir up something new. I hope to help with the GCPL, Tulane D-1, McKinely boys, and will always help St. Amant and North Cobb. North Cobb was a very rural public at one time, and Gallstar was blessed to be there Four years. I was gifted then but more so now. Many people helped me, and I’ve, in part, tried to pay this forward. I hope many of you will find your way to make a difference. Our state has so many wonderful people and gifted young people. We need to all find a way to get 40 plus teams that look more like St. Paul.
The last but not least best thing I saw all year.
The McKinely vs. Holy Cross game. If you didn’t get to witness the pure passion of that school, you missed out. I was so moved that I will hopefully be allowed to join them in the coming weeks to start planning for next year—
Soccer star lover and Toughguy are two students at Vandy. If you get a chance to meet them, you're in for a treat. They love their school and support all of their classmates.
Great Season and apologies accepted from the passionate. Nothing great ever happens without Passion. To my son, thanks for being good with being baby Gallstar and to Mama G, thanks for letting me be the biggest kid of all. My son has rarely made my post, but he will make this one. He’s a good player but a great student. My prayers were answered. I prayed that he would be smart, not athletic. I was gifted with sports and very limited with intellect. Parents' sports are about shaping your child, and only a very few will be the best and get the full notice you think they deserve. My advice is to love them and use this one simple phrase. Son or daughter, I loved watching you play.
All the best,
Gallstar
