This hurts a lot when I heard first heard about her passing, and it breaks my heart now with how she went. I've never met Katie before, but she was awesome to watch during her 2019 NCAA title run with Stanford. nypost.com/2022/03/03/stanford-soccer-player-katie-meyer-dies-of-suicide/It's an uncomfortable topic and often a taboo subject, but my biggest fear in my coaching life is that one day I have a Katie Meyer on my squad and was unable to be an outlet for my players. I don't put blame on the coaches and staff that surrounded her; from the outside looking in there are so many broken hearts from everyone and sure they were blind-sided by Katie's death. One video that absolutely changed my approach from just X's and O's is Coach Sue Enquist talking about a very similar situation, but a much younger player. It is definitely worth the 8 minutes. I have met so many great coaches in Louisiana who love their players genuinely and would be devastated if this ever happened in our community. This post certainly is not to place blame on anyone - I would just ask please invest in your players beyond the field, and maybe you are who they reach out too in their time of need before they make this final decision. - Tank
