Impressive start to the Fall MLS Next season for the 3 younger TDP teams that had games this weekend in Broussard! To add a little bit of context. Houston Dynamo Youth is a satellite academy about an hour north of Houston Dynamo's top academy. Similar to LATDP, but closer geographically and affiliation wise. The 08s could compete with this team day 1, but were probably a little behind. We drew them in the Fall 1-1 in a game we were the better side. It seems this Spring we may have passed them up and are now chasing the next level of competition. We can make competitive games with top teams, but we are more equal to the middle of the Frontier division of MLS Next which is one of the top divisions/conferences in all of MLS Next. This was proven by results from MLS Next Fest at the end of the Fall season. It is sometimes hard to measure success when you are competing with FC Dallas, Austin FC, Houston Dynamo, etc.. but results are improving and we are starting to knock of league opponents. Also results vs local teams a year older in friendlies have dramatically shifted for some ages in LATDP. For example, the 2008s couldn't beat a local top 2007 team (this was discussed in another thread). We consistently loss by a goal or two until we eventually drew. This Fall the 2008s won 4-1 and 3-0 vs top local 2007 teams. The program is going in the right direction with the current leadership and coaches.

I think a lot of the issue with the 2008's was that we were severely undersized in comparison to the teams that we were playing. A lot of the teams were based more on bigger/stronger/faster and who had hit puberty at 7 instead of technical ability and soccer IQ. That's starting to even out a bit more.
