Many questions have been emailed to me about this event. Before I get to those questions, not only will you get information from the college coaches, you will also get valuable information from the father of this years Herman Trophy winner. In college soccer, the Herman Trophy is equal to the Heisman Trophy of college football. You will hear from the father of this years Herman Trophy winner not only what it took to get his son recruited and into college but what it took to get him every advantage to complete his education on time at the same time excell in the sport. For those that have not heard, this year's Herman Trophy winner was Jason Gary from southeast Louisiana. Jason was a member of the Univerity of Marylands soccer program. He was not only a valuable contributor to the soccer program for the past four years, but also found a way to complete his graduation requirements early. He was recently chosen in the MLS super-draft by the Columbus Crew. As for the questions that have been coming in: Where is this event going to be held?Kenner Lions Soccer Fieldhouse. Goto www.lafrenieresoccer.org and go to FACILITIES LINK. What time will this take place? The seminar will begin at 7pm and is scheduled to end at 9pm but may extend longer. Is this only for players from Lafreniere Soccer Club?THIS EVENT IS OPEN TO ANY PLAYER, PARENT, FAMILY OF ANY SOCCER CLUB. Is there any fee to attend the seminar?Yes, there is a $20 fee per family and pre-registration is required. What college coaches are going to be in attendance?Several college coaches will be in attendance to speak and later be available for questions. The specifice schools and coaches will be posted in a couple of days as we finalize the list. This seminar is a great opportunity for both the student-athlete and the parents to gain valuable information:1) How does the whole recruiting process work? 2) How does one go about going after an athletic scholarship? 3) What are the recruiting rules? 4) What is the NCAA Clearinghouse? 5) What is the difference between Junior College, NAIA, and the NCAA? 6) What is the difference between NCAA Division I, II, and III? 7) What are the academic requirements to compete in college? Even more, what are the academic requirements to compete at the various levels and different associations? 8) When do college contacts begin? When do college coaches begin to contact players and when can player, parents and coaches begin talking about recruitment? 9) When can players begin to initiate recruiting contacts with college coaches? 10) What is a player profile and what information should be included in it? 11) Why is it important to have reputable coach references as well as teacher/school references? 12) What is the importance of being involved in some type of community service?
There are countless amounts of information that is needed to know to give yourself the best chance of getting scholarships, but even more just to understand what it will take to be both a contributor and successful as a college student-athlete. It is a totally different world than being a high school student-athlete.PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS SEMINAR AS SPACE IS LIMITED. To pre-register or for more information email either: Ray Brown at rblafsoccer@excite.com or Rick Garey at rwglafsoccer@excite.com

There has been an incredible response to this college seminar. It is less than a week away. There is only room for about 4 or 5 families left to attend. Families from Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Houma, the Northshore, as well as local New Orleans families are attending. Anyone that has been on the bubble of committing to attend has about a day or so to make a decision. We hope to see everyone there that are looking to learn what it takes to get to the collegiate level of play as a student-athlete. For more information visit www.lafrenieresoccer.org
